I'm happy for Ovechkin. He deserves this

Husband is still mourning another lost chance for his Jets, but we’re happy for long suffering Caps fans and Ovechkin. That was a great game.
I missed this thread, bummer.
I grew up on hockey in the 80s, it was the only thing on ESPN back in those days when they had no money. They used to have 2 games a night, minimum. I randomly picked the Caps as my team. They were always good, but never the best, so I didn't feel like I was bandwagoning. I watched them play in several 3 and 4 OT playoff games against the Flyers and Rangers, some of hte best sport I have ever seen. Hockey with guys that are absolutely ready to drop from exhaustion is amazing.
Then in the late 90s when I had little kids at home, I used to keep hockey on for background noise while chasing after them. I remember my son wanting to know why they were throwing rats on the ice. Caps were good then - real good. Bondra, Hunter, Carpenter, etc. Got to the Final and destroyed by the Detroit Red Army, uh, Wings.
Have not followed it as much since. Less time to watch sports as you get older it seems. Didn't watch much of the NHL at all this season until the Tampa Bay series. So I wasn't as emotionally invested as I could have been. Still glad to seem them win. Still my team though!
