I was curious if Twins was referring to a single tweet from a media guy in Minnesota. Guess Keith was way off then.

The ISU fan-Fred relationship isn't the same though, it has never been temporary. He'll be breaking a lot of people's hearts ironically when he leaves.

4. How Fred could do this to something he loves so much is unimaginable. It breaks my heart. I will forgive him, but I will not root for him or wish him well unless he someday decides to come back to ISU and coach again.
5. We may get a very good coach to replace Fred, but he will never be Fred. There will always be a hole if Fred leaves.

So that is how I feel. I don't care if you don't like it.

I'm okay with how you feel as that is your right and its understandable. I, too, thought Fred would be here longer because he had unfinished business, like wanting to take ISU to a Final Four, for example. While I'm sad and disappointed, I won't however, not wish him well in the NBA. He's still Fred, a great guy, and he deserves to be happy and follow a dream of coaching in the NBA. All we can say is "thank you" , for bringing Hilton Magic back! While some thought his heart surgery would keep him from the NBA due to all of the grind, travel, etc.,... I really believe its just the opposite. When you have the serious condition/procedures /close calls that he has had, you probably think about your health down the road and how long you really want to be in the business of coaching and not to pass up good opportunities. Know its not a favorable topic to discuss, but don't underestimate the influence of his kids/wife here. Think its been an exaggeration to say that they wouldn't want to ever leave Ames, etc., imo. But, yes, I think we can all agree that this "local boy returns home to take Cyclonenation by storm" will never feel the same.

Murphy said he's "hearing" the Twolves are in play. An NBA beat writer for the Twolves says the rumors are untrue and Flip will be coaching them next year. You can believe what you want

No. We chose to believe that. He led us to believe that he was very happy in Ames. No reason to doubt that. There were always bits and pieces of evidence that he was intrigued by the NBA.

I'm sure he would be happy ending his career in Ames, that doesn't preclude being happy doing other things as well. And he won't be able to replace the family stuff in the NBA, that's true as well. I just didn't take that quote as a promise to spend the rest of his career in Ames.

The Chicago Bulls' beat writers say no deal is in place. Mark Stein and Woj say no deal is in place. You can believe what you want.
 
The only thing i got from this thread is that I would love to play poker with all of you.

I think the common thread is there are those of us who feel we're screwed if Fred leaves and those that think we'll be fine if he goes.

For me I just look back at the futility of the 2000's to know we're screwed. No other coach was able to get us where we are today and no coach in the Big 12 has been able to be as much of a threat to KU's reign as Fred has. Those two things matter to me.

So yes, IMHO 5 years is too short. I'm a fan and can have that opinion.

Just curious, but how old are you? Just seems like the viewpoint of one who has only known Moegan/mcD and Hoiberg.

Fred's success really is in the same tier as Floyd and Euatachy, though his future projection was certainly much higher.
