Official 2015 Hoiberg NBA Speculation Thread

I bet part of Fred's desire to coach in the NBA is bc his playing days in the NBA were cut short
I also assume a man that has a serious heart condition and has had multiple open heart surgeries doesn't take too many days for granted. If this is something he wants he should go for it.

It's always been a dream and goal of his to Coach in the NBA and that was made clear from Day 1.

No he didn't. Please tell me when he made this clear to fans.

The the first an average fan might have known was the first contract extension 3 years ago. And even then it wasn't super clear.

Well, if this quote doesn't say "dream job" I don't know what does:

I’d love to end my career here,” Hoiberg said in a phone interview with the Ames Tribune. “I’ve got something special in Ames. My kids get to see their grandparents every day if they want to, and that’s stuff you can’t replace. To look up in the crowd (during games) and there’s my parents, my in-laws, my brother, my sister-in-law, my other brother drives over from Omaha a lot, just to have that family support, you can’t replace that.“I’m very happy here. My kids love it. I’d love to spend the rest of my career here.” - See more at: http://amestrib.com/sports/men-s-basketball-hoiberg-gets-raise-isu#sthash.0UeZ0tym.dpuf

That quote is what will leave a bitter taste in people's mouth, and why the media should stop pretending to be shocked that any ISU fan would be upset at Fred. If he had left after 8 or 10 years, then that would be a completely different scenario.

But he never said "Dream Job"..... :jimlad:

Problem is he lead us to believe ISU is his dream job.

Dreams change. He doesn't owe anyone or ISU anything.

People can be mad, but sports didn't stop being a business when Fred came back to Ames.

He can do what he wants. Fans can be mad if they want, but the man can do whatever he feels and not owe anything

Those that praised Fred like a god want to believe different. He was a great player at Iowa St for 4 years, then took over a program that was a complete dumpster fire, and made it great again. He doesn't owe you or anyone else anything. So don't act like he **** all over the university.

Who said he owes ISU or the fans anything? I said he is no different than John Calipari. Fre has leveraged other jobs for more money and explored other opportunities year in a year out. That's what 99% of coaches do. And Fred is no different.

That doesn't make him a bad person or it doesn't mean he owes us something. It's just the way it is.

I am with ya here Al.

It is reaching its fevered pitch I am afraid. We are about to descend in the the dark days that followed the sack of Rome. At least we won't have to worry about competing against the Big 12 teams in 5 years when we get shuffled out of the Power 5.

And those that for those claiming meltdown over things like the blum article well as I said then, true meltdowns require over the top and outlandish doomsday projections and panic like a 16 year old girl who just got dumped for the first time. Dare I say the real meltdown is officially beginning?

Get a grip. Only bluebloods don't lose coaches. You know what Fred and his family know about ISU MBB? That him leaving will be overcome. That every coach except one in the past 30 years has had success, with 4 of the past 5 reaching the second round by Year 2.

The story of Fred Hoiberg having success as coach of ISU cannot be matched, the success can be.

Amazing. Simple statements seem to confuse you. He knows what his leaving would mean to Cyclone nation, that's not even up for debate.

I don't care he follows his real dream. But because he, and his wife, completely understand the situation, playing it out like this doesn't reflect well on him.

Just go if you're going. But when you drive across 80 watch out for the giant semen cloud over iowa city.

It's always been a dream and goal of his to Coach in the NBA and that was made clear from Day 1.

I wouldn't say it was "Made clear from Day 1", seems more like Jamie Pollard said it to cup our ballz after the fact and now it's being taken as gospel and it has always been crystal clear. Made clear would be Fred saying at his opening press conference, "I'm going to leave this job for the NBA when/if the right opportunity comes".

That is crystal clear.

This is not crystal clear:

That wasn't directed at you, just quoted your post. But there are some on here that act like 5 years was not enough, and because he said he loves it here, that means he has to stay longer.

Fred does owe Iowa State 8 more years of coaching from his 10 yr contract. I get they don't always work out but after signing that and saying how much this job meant he leaves after 2 yrs and losing to UAB?

If someone hired me for a 7 figure job for which I had zero credentials or experience and put that much faith and trust in me, I'd think I owed him something.

Vice versa, if I did what Pollard did in hiring him, I'd feel he owed me something as well. Maybe he doesn't owe the fans something, but someone took a huge ******* gamble on him, and he's bailing 5 years after that fact. There are people out there that are owed by Fred Hoiberg. The question is whether or not what he's done in the past 5 years has repaid the debt.

Why do number of years make a difference?
