I also assume a man that has a serious heart condition and has had multiple open heart surgeries doesn't take too many days for granted. If this is something he wants he should go for it.I bet part of Fred's desire to coach in the NBA is bc his playing days in the NBA were cut short
He played longer in the NBA than in college, so I vote that he sticks around Ames for awhile longer.

It's always been a dream and goal of his to Coach in the NBA and that was made clear from Day 1.
Well, if this quote doesn't say "dream job" I don't know what does:
“I’d love to end my career here,” Hoiberg said in a phone interview with the Ames Tribune. “I’ve got something special in Ames. My kids get to see their grandparents every day if they want to, and that’s stuff you can’t replace. To look up in the crowd (during games) and there’s my parents, my in-laws, my brother, my sister-in-law, my other brother drives over from Omaha a lot, just to have that family support, you can’t replace that.“I’m very happy here. My kids love it. I’d love to spend the rest of my career here.” - See more at: http://amestrib.com/sports/men-s-basketball-hoiberg-gets-raise-isu#sthash.0UeZ0tym.dpuf
That quote is what will leave a bitter taste in people's mouth, and why the media should stop pretending to be shocked that any ISU fan would be upset at Fred. If he had left after 8 or 10 years, then that would be a completely different scenario.
Problem is he lead us to believe ISU is his dream job.
Those that praised Fred like a god want to believe different. He was a great player at Iowa St for 4 years, then took over a program that was a complete dumpster fire, and made it great again. He doesn't owe you or anyone else anything. So don't act like he **** all over the university.
I am with ya here Al.
It is reaching its fevered pitch I am afraid. We are about to descend in the the dark days that followed the sack of Rome. At least we won't have to worry about competing against the Big 12 teams in 5 years when we get shuffled out of the Power 5.
Get a grip. Only bluebloods don't lose coaches. You know what Fred and his family know about ISU MBB? That him leaving will be overcome. That every coach except one in the past 30 years has had success, with 4 of the past 5 reaching the second round by Year 2.
The story of Fred Hoiberg having success as coach of ISU cannot be matched, the success can be.

Who said he owes ISU or the fans anything? I said he is no different than John Calipari. Fre has leveraged other jobs for more money and explored other opportunities year in a year out. That's what 99% of coaches do. And Fred is no different.
That doesn't make him a bad person or it doesn't mean he owes us something. It's just the way it is.
Dreams change. He doesn't owe anyone or ISU anything.
People can be mad, but sports didn't stop being a business when Fred came back to Ames.
He can do what he wants. Fans can be mad if they want, but the man can do whatever he feels and not owe anything

That wasn't directed at you, just quoted your post. But there are some on here that act like 5 years was not enough, and because he said he loves it here, that means he has to stay longer.
Fred does owe Iowa State 8 more years of coaching from his 10 yr contract. I get they don't always work out but after signing that and saying how much this job meant he leaves after 2 yrs and losing to UAB?
