NDSU favored by 2

If ISU beats Iowa this year I'll be shocked, and I'll have zero problems eating crow. You have my word. Given Iowa's greatest strength (offensive line), and ISU's greatest weakness (dline) I think the chances of that happening are incredibly slim.

Now, the reason I was discussing the possibility of ISU losing to an FBS team on their home turf two years in a row is because it is just that... It's a possibility. I don't think it's going to happen, but one could make a good argument that it's a pretty damn realistic possibility considering the fact oddsmakers have ISU as the underdog. As I said before, if that happens it will be one of the most embarrassing things that's ever happened to an Iowa State football team. Personally, I think it's going to be a pretty good game but if I was going to wager on it at this point in time I would probably take ISU because of what NDSU has lost. I certainly don't think they are the #1 team in the FBS although when you have as much success as they've had in the past few years I can understand why they were given the top rank.

So what if ISU's greatest strength is their O line and Iowa weakest of their D line?

Their qb is new this year, but he looks like a good one. A giant, smiley, ginger stud.

Here is a picture of NDSU's new QB:

Carl Davis is considered a second round pick. Their dl is good. 3 new linebackers however. Our OL needs to protect the QB and get our big receivers the ball.

I predict Bibbs will have a huge game in Iowa city. And we will make hay with shallow routes across the middle. Iowa's linebackers will have no answer for our receiving corps. It will be the first time they will have seen anything like it.

Did Carl Davis get hurt?

Their D line is the best part of their D. It's definitely solid. We will beat NDSU with the run but will have to beat the Hok's with the pass.

I understand that. I'm asking a hypothetical.

Then I would feel pretty strongly that ISU has the advantage. Games are won up front. That's not earthshattering news. Iowa's offensive line is vastly superior to ISU's defensive line, and while it isn't as pronounced the other way around I would still give Iowa's defensive line the advantage over ISU's offensive line. Which means, in my opinion, the Hawks will control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Like I said, if the roles were reversed I would predict ISU to get the victory. That's kind of a dumb hypothetical question, but there's your answer.

I get all that. Just wanted to point out that there are multiple aspects to the game (which I know you know) and just because one offensive unit is better then one defensive unit, it does not mean one team has the advantage over the other. ISU's offensive line should hold their own, and while good, Iowa's defensive line wont have it easy against ISU's offensive line. If ISU can get their receivers open in space and have time to throw them the ball, I wouldn't be shocked what so ever to see ISU win. But then again, I'm not near as high on Iowa as 90% of this State is.

Family Ties
Mangino’s return to the Big 12 with Iowa State includes having his son on the staff. Tommy Mangino is the Cyclones’ wide receivers coach.
“It’s a special situation,â€￾ Mark Mangino said. “I gave Paul a list of three or four names for the open positions we had. It was up to him and he had the final say. He came into my office and said he was gonna hire Tommy.
“It made me happy but it really made his mother happy. She gets to see her son and her grandson every day. We have a debt of gratitude to Paul Rhoads for making that happen for our family.â€￾
Let's hope Mary Jane has some say in the matter when the job offers start rolling in down the road. Not to say that Tommy couldn't get a job at the new school but it isn't a slam dunk that it would work out that way.

Iowa State will not beat Iowa this year... Better stay focused on maintaining the season with more than half the fans interested if their is a loss to NDSU.
