NDSU favored by 2

Your Hawkeyes should have been beaten a couple of years ago by UNI. Got lucky with blocked PAT. Minnesota from the mighty B1G lost to 3 FCS teams in 5 years. Which shows just how weak the B1G really is.

No one is making excuses.

Which is why I said two years in a row buddy. I understand bad losses happen. Totally understand that. There isn't a team in college football that doesn't have bad losses in their history. However, the same coach in two consecutive years losing to teams from a conference below them on their home field is as bad as it gets. If that happens it should be a giant red flag.

Minnesota is bad. I'm not sure where you're going with that one... Who would argue that they aren't bad?

Was not a PAT

This is true for NDSU also. If we get crushed in the first game after losing so many starters I think they will be shaken and it will be a tough year. Ahhh the intangibles...

BTW: LB is the only one on my ignore list here. :)

Gotta love the first game when it's a good matchup. You'll find out right away if all the hype from spring and fall camps was hot air or not.

So stop with the negativity. It hasn't happened. What will you say if ISU beats Iowa.......again for the third time in four years?

This line is essentially a pick 'em. I don't know why anyone would be surprised by that. ISU has a huge hole to dig out of after last year.

Typically JTS is worth 4 or 5 points for Iowa State. So even a line of -2 means we would be 6 or 7 point underdogs on a neutral field. Division 1AA champ or not, that's still an embarrassing number.

UNI was favored to win back in '04. That Cyclone team played angry. NDSU being favored is great bulletin board material. I hope it's plastered all over the damned locker room. It'd **** me off...

UNI was just as motivated, if not more so, than we were. ISU was just a lot better?

The quality of our coaching staff is being seriously underestimated. If you look back, our best seasons have come when we've had a good stable of assistant coaches. I'd put this group up against any who have ever graced our campus. We would have been a far better team last year with any kind of offense. Yes, we had a horrible luck with injuries, but we also had sub-par coaching on offense. It was so frustrating because there was enough talent there to make it happen.

I can not remember a time of this much humble confidence by one of our teams. They seem truly confident. It's great to see. If we stay healthy, we are really going to surprise some people. And the Bison will be the first.

If ISU beats Iowa this year I'll be shocked, and I'll have zero problems eating crow. You have my word. Given Iowa's greatest strength (offensive line), and ISU's greatest weakness (dline) I think the chances of that happening are incredibly slim.

Now, the reason I was discussing the possibility of ISU losing to an FBS team on their home turf two years in a row is because it is just that... It's a possibility. I don't think it's going to happen, but one could make a good argument that it's a pretty damn realistic possibility considering the fact oddsmakers have ISU as the underdog. As I said before, if that happens it will be one of the most embarrassing things that's ever happened to an Iowa State football team. Personally, I think it's going to be a pretty good game but if I was going to wager on it at this point in time I would probably take ISU because of what NDSU has lost. I certainly don't think they are the #1 team in the FBS although when you have as much success as they've had in the past few years I can understand why they were given the top rank.

IMO, NDSU will be a good game. NDSU has some huge losses to fill. Amazing to see so many just assuming that NDSU will not have any problems while assuming the worst for ISU.

Even with losing a head coach and a bunch of seniors, NDSU still has a lot of guys that have been in a very good program for years. I expect them to be sharp. I'm not really sure about our guys. Recent history says a few of them may get hit in the face a couple times and struggle.

Their qb is new this year, but he looks like a good one. A giant, smiley, ginger stud.

Good thing you said "one of" because 0-10-1 was pretty embarrassing as well. Not to mention the buildup to the first game the following year dubbed by the national media as The Donut Bowl.

I believe the oddsmakers are correct on the line. I think there is a very good reason why the line fell from 3.5 and settled at 2.0 and that is because bettors on NDSU don't want to lay more than a FG and consequently 3 is a big number. Although, NDSU has question marks they also have a remarkable "culture of winning" that has been established over the last three years. Iowa State....not so much.

All that being said I believe this is a game that Iowa State could/should and most importantly needs to win. My prediction is Iowa State 34 North Dakota State 28.
