There is a highly intellectual conversation going on about this topic over on HN. I wonder how low my rep over there will get for not spewing the Hawgeye gospel with every post I make.

THH is a whaler, I think the guys on Discovery Channel have even followed him. Maybe in the next episode.

To say that the Iowa student section throws urine filled ballons at the opposing team. Quite a feat, considering the visiting teams tunnel and sideline is on the opposite side of the field.

Maybe you have a Peyton Manning like cannon of an arm. On second thought you throwing urine would get in the way of your KFC bucket.

I'm glad somebody finally has the balls to say something about this. It has outraged me for a long time. Is there any chance we could win a court battle to get them to stop using the sticker? It should be an ISU thing, not an Iowa thing.

Please enlighten us on what the basis of your lawsuit would be, because the argument of ISU has an Ag department and Iowa doesn't wont work.

It sounds to me that some Cyclones are a little jealous of Iowa's good marketing skills. Iowa used the sticker to raise awareness of the struggling farmers during the 1980's. Now the tables are turned and Iowa's using the stickers to raise money for the university which is having budget cuts. I don't have a problem with it because farmers are in no way obligated to give money to them, its purely voluntary. If you think Iowa farmers are stupid enough to be duped into giving money to Iowa because of a sticker on their helmit than I'm afraid your the stupid one.

Let's get MAD again.

Yeah...great marketing.

Yeah, it's pretty much just tradition... except for the part of licensing the mark and making money off of it. Iowa is paying lip service to the farmers and making money off of them at the same time. Brilliant. A complete ******* move, but brilliant.

Are you aware of the financial state of public research universities these days? They're increasingly becoming public in name only. That means that they NEED TO capitalize off of anything they possibly can ... because goodness knows, taxpayers typically cringe at paying higher taxes to help our infrastructure (by funding higher education).

As for the use of ANF. It is a symbol. ISU fans might not like the fact that Iowa uses such a symbol while they do not do agriculture-related research ... however, it still remains that in the world of college football ... the Hawkeyes are better known than the Cyclones. Thus, I see there being little wrong with the Hawkeyes embracing the agricultural background of the state.

Lastly, MANY of the Hawkeye players and students grew up on farms. ISU does NOT corner the market on students who have a farming background. As memory serves, Matt Kroul and Aaron Kampman are but two former farm-boys.

If you look at ISU ... many of their classes have been bolstered from kids from some of the biggest high-schools in the state. I'm willing to bet that in-state ISU guys are much more likely to be city kids (particularly from the metro Des Moines area) than their Hawkeye counterparts.
