Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players
retain it, the ball belongs to the passers. It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an
opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such
players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.
You are correct....you can't do that in the NFL. If there is a change of possession the play is dead on a conversion...
You are correct.of course the replacement refs might not know that.
Yeah but there was a totally missed PI a couple of plays earlier where the safety totally rolled the TE - you could go on and on - just like in every game, every year, not just with replacement refs.
Frankly I think ESPN is trying to create a circus out of the whole replacement ref thing and John Gruden is obviously head clown. I think those two in the booth tonight were a hell of a lot less professional than any of the refs on the field.
possession in that circumstance is not reviewable. they can only review if the ball hit the ground, but not who had it. that determination goes back to the call on the field.
This probably will be changed next year.

This picture really says it all. Two refs two different calls.
I'm game!I think we could put together a better ref crew than these replacements. Okay, looking for volunteers.
I have not seen one decent officiated game in NFL this year. The college refs are superior at this point.
FBS refs have more training and experience, so that's not exactly a shocking revelation.I have not seen one decent officiated game in NFL this year. The college refs are superior at this point.
The key part is that the wording of the rule is written based on control and not on possession.
