But why doesn't two hands give someone control?
So why are you arguing? Because Jennings had 2 hands on it first.

But why doesn't two hands give someone control?
I don't know if the regular refs would have helped here. Why?
-this is a hell of a call either way
-anybody can make an initial mistake from a sub-optimal angle to see Tate's arms on the ball when everybody comes to the ground, no idea that the Packers might have had it cleaner and first
-I'm not even sure what the rules are for governing "possession" versus "simultaneous possession" in these instances
-the replay officials are the NORMAL ones--they're a different union
-this was going to be booth no matter what happened, and the normal replay refs couldn't overturn it
Hence, I think this was going to be a cluster of an ending no matter what happened. I'm pretty sure the standard of four hands on the ball isn't, "That guy just *looked* like he had it more than the other guy somehow."
I don't feel this is an actual black eye to the integrity of the game for the above reasons, but I'm sure this will still giving the pundits something to talk about. The silver lining to this that it will probably bring the regular officials back now, which, despite my feelings it wouldn't have mattered with this one, is a good thing.
this. It was a judgement call on the td. the wrong call was made, imho, but it was called that way. from that point on, the refs did the right thing. you can't overturn it once the call on the field is made
I guess my only question is when is possession given to a player. I'm under the impression it's not until they're on the ground in bounds, in which case they both had two hands on the ball when they hit the ground. If it's an instantaneous thing then Jennings had possession first. So why are you arguing? Because Jennings had 2 hands on it first.
Packer had two hands on it while Tate had one hand until they hit the ground when Tate had the second hand on it. No play review at end. They screwed that review up also. The replacement refs are worse than worse. Where did they soak these guys up from?I think when the players hit ground they both had two hands on the ball, does that make it simultaneous? I don't know. In the land of 3TrueFans I think it should because I think of possession not occurring until you're on the ground in bounds.
Sad thing is... the guys reviewing in the booth are not replacement refs. They are the normal guys!
That said... the replacement refs blew it and have been blowing it all year!
And the NFL is losing credibility. Soon they will start losing fans.
And if I was Ed Hochuli, I would not be smiling at all (as someone stated earlier in the thread) because the game is being ruined...

End zone TD play is not reviewable? They however reviewed it anyway and still had it wrong.Thing is, at least what the talking heads and retired ref/consultant said the replay booth can't overturn that call. It's not reviewable for some reason(why?).
Whether the call was right or not - and I have to agree whole heartedly with Sigmapolis on this - Jennings made a stupid play. He is at the back of the endzone; tip the ball out the back of the endzone and enjoy your victory. Try to be BMOC and make an interception instead and give Seattle a chance.
See post in other thread, I can't admit I'm wrong twice in one night. When talking about a tie for a catch, it's about control first. To me, Tate never actually had any control of it. Jennings had two hands on it, therefore control. And now it can't be simultaneous.

Who even cares about simultaneous possession? The push off on Shields was ridiculous.
