Mike Taylor Arrested (Twice Now)

None of our business? True. Except that it is a public record... :)

Mike Taylor is a public figure, and when public figures mess up, people talk about it. What do you expect?

If you are an ISU fan why would you ever post this? Do you have any brains in your head?

Do you want to be a fan and supporter of a dirty program that just hides things or do you want to be a fan of a nice clean, successful program that ISU is striving to be? There is nothing better than an open and transparent policy when it comes to things like these. If you question anybody on here for having a problem with two drunken incidents in a 6 month span, you need to revisit what is proper and inproper for an ambassador of our University.

No I'm saying that is what these reports are insinuating. They say that the suspension for academics was really to cover us his OWI. Those are some pretty lofty accusations to be throwing out there. I think this whole discussion is wrong and none of our business.

None of our business?? Then who's business is it? I'd like you to try convincing anyone who has given money to ISU athletics that this isn't their business. That will fly real well right in the middle of Pollard's "Step up to the Plate" campaign he's waging right now.

Then why didn't you mention the DUI when you knew about it, Jeremy?

Snowcraig, you need to cut out the personal attacks and stick to the thread subject.

I don't think one kid (Taylor) is doing things bad enough to ruin the reputation of an entire athletic program. McDermott should take plenty of blame for this as well. If there were concerns about character before the fall semester, why not revoke the scholarship right away? Just because we have one troublesome incident (that is well known and happened while he was an ISU student) doesn't mean its a chain-reaction waiting to happen. The majority of our current players seem to be upstanding citizens, but like it or not, we are going to have a bad apple here and there. If you are going to win at a high level in today's world, you need to let SOME things slide.

I really hope that the Iowa State Athletic Department has never been to this site, because this can not be an accurate sample of the feelings of most ISU fans. Mike Taylor is a good kid. He messed up. Unlike murder, or P. Pierce, or any of the other claims made on this board Mike damaged property, not people. I really, really hope that what he did does not constitute kicking him off the team. I understand that many of you have the ISU is "holier than thou" attitude and if someone gets pulled over for a speeding ticket then when should have them banished from the record books. As far as McD standing up for the integrity of the program; he is dealing with college kids! I admit that they are high-profile Iowa celebs, but still college kids. Mike made a MISTAKE, one that as we all admitted we probably made at that age. Get off his back and let the people with the power make the correct decision.

I also agree that the main problem here is that you waited till now to bring out this information. It wasn't brought up before likely because it could have hurt the program, but now it is still brought up? Now this kid is getting piled on.

Again the scholly opening given to Brister was from Thompson not being on scholarship, stop the speculation. If Taylor does get the boot, Brister will prolly get Taylor's scholarship, which would open up a scholarship for Thompson.

Jeremy I have a question for you. The way you are putting it is that Mac suspened Taylor for the OWI and not academic reasons, correct? But he then lied and said that it was for academic reason? How is that not "dirty" and how would that be considered "transparent". Also there is no concrete evidence that he was drunk for this last incident so you shouldn't speculate. Again these are just questions I would like answered, not attacks on you peronally.

I don't have a problem if anything happens either way. It's not a TERRIBLE thing that happened, but it's two incidents and I don't think that should be totally disregarded.

Taylor is emminently likable and I think he's a good ambassador for the university. If he is allowed back, I think he needs to be on a Jason Berryman short leash. I have no problem sticking with a guy especially since he'll be a senior and he'll have a chance to graduate.

I don't think that Mac ever specifically stated it was due to academics but I could be wrong. I was not asked by Mac not to report the OWI, nor was anybody else to my knowledge. The reason a lot of people didn't report it is simply because the program had gone through enough at that time and most thought MT would be better going forward.

The reason I specifically reported it today is because MT clearly has not kept his nose out of trouble and I knew others that were getting ready to report it on the radio.

Actually, I agree with this. Taylor getting a 4 year degree could/would probably be one of, if not the, single most important thing he does with his life.

As for counting this as strike one/two within a matter of minutes/hours frankly, seems kind of childish. Not many of us knew about the first "strike", and probably less than 10% of this board would have known about it if Jeremy hadn't said anything about it today. I don't think he should get off scot-free IF he is guilty, but I'm not sure about getting the boot either. Just because he was arrested for this doesn't necessarily mean he did it, or all of it. How many of us usually leave a party drunk and alone in college? Or are there usually a group of you? If Taylor was in that group, what's to say everyone else wasn't also arrested?

He had already committed to ISU and was a member of the team regardless of how you try to spin it.

Jeremy,

How can Taylor be a member of the team when he had his Wisconsin problem if he's not ENROLLED at ISU at that point? He isn't a member of the team at that point. He's not a representative of ISU to anyone that matters and that doesn't include the usual internet lynch mob gang who never screws up in their Cyclone Fanatic life.

His problem likey comes from the fact that 1. He was told he can't pull that Wisconsin crap when he gets here by a staff member. 2. He pulled that Wisonsin crap after he got here this past Feb. 3. Now, he's screwed up at ISU and more than likely ignored the coaches telling him not to screw up at ISU.

If he's gone, he's gone. But his only screw ups at ISU that we know about for sure are not taking class work seriously enough AND this recent muck up.

You can spin it many ways but the fact is he had committed to the program and to the team, he was therefore a member of the team. I don't care if all the papers had been signed or not, he was a member of the team when it happened. Spinning things like that only lead to complacency or an era of ambiguity, that won't be what happens at Iowa State going forward.

Why has no one responded to the poster that said that he heard through the person that is putting together the men's banquet that Taylor is off the team?? That's huge if true.

Do you possibly think that if Mike Taylor is not allowed back on the team, that maybe we get Beas Hamga. That is if Alford comes back to Iowa next year!

Because if he's suspended indefinately, it's virtually the same thing, except the former means he can come back. I also don't like to talk about hearsay. Hell, I could just as easily say that I saw Jiri wearing a dress in class this afternoon, as someone who says Taylor is "off the team" because they "heard it from a friend."
