LA Tech Transfer Holden visiting in May

If it's down to us, Auburn and Illinois, I like our chances.
Usually, basketball-wise, I'd be pretty confident as well. However, we're talking about the $EC and Auburn'$ $ale$man, Bruce Pearl.

Agree with that. Maybe the hometown Chicago proximity could help us. If we don't get Holden, not really sure what our next option would be. Haven't seen us linked to LG Gill lately.

Hopefully they seal the deal this weekend. It seems so often with transfers if they don't commit at the end of their weekend visit they never commit. Holden is a critical need at this point. A chance to step right in and run with one of the most proven backcourts in the country.

I am not in "the know" and don't claim to be, but I have a really good friend that knows a lot of what happens inside the Auburn program and he told me last night that what he is hearing is...Holden wants to be closer to home but has built a good relationship with Prohm. Not breaking news or anything but from what he knows he is saying that it is between us and Illinois. TIFWIW

McKay didn't make it far enough because he was mad he was 4th on the depth chart. Burton left because he was being phased out.
Amazing we made it to the sweet 16 with these bench warmers from Marquette. Marquette must be celebrating their second consecutive NCAA title right....?

Interesting. This would line up with Auburn getting a commitment from the other grad transfer right after Holden's visit.
If it is down to Illinois and ISU then it may come down to the opportunity Holden wants for his final year play a lot or win at a high level. I believe ISU has a lot or more post season aspirations than the Illini at least until the Malou situation is decided. Illinois will most like be able to offer more guaranteed playing time at this time (only returning 3 players taller than 6'7").

I agree with everything except for Illinois offering more playing time. If Holden does his homework, he will see we truly have no guaranteed starters in the post. As far as I know, Illinois returns Maverick Morgan and Michael Finke, both of which got plenty of playing time inside and produced last season. Any big man looking for playing time should be licking his chops at the opportunity ISU has.

If we can't beat Illinois for a grad transfer forward this year, I won't have a lot of confidence in our staff's ability to recruit.

This is a must get.

That's a little extreme

Maybe but recruiting comes down to wins and losses. You have to beat lesser programs. Right now, you can't make a case that Illinois is a better fit for Holden than ISU. ISU is the perfect fit for Holden and we were in right from the start, so there are no excuses.

And for the record, I think we'll land him.

Well he is from Chicago. I think we land him anyways but I'm not going to panic if we don't

I would agree if this was a guy that was guaranteed to start, and play majority of the team's minutes in the post. However, I'm not sold that this is the type of guy that is guaranteed 30+ minutes.

Illinois still has a strong(er) basketball tradition. The kid is from Chicago. They still get good fan support. Excellent school. Assembly Hall just had a huge renovation. C-U is a great city. Don't sell them short even if they've sucked the last couple years.

My point is that this kid has 1 year to play. We have a top 5-10 back court. Very little front court experience. 5 straight tourney appearances, sweet 16 2 out of the last 3 years.

There will always be a decent school that is closer to 99 out of 100 guys we recruit.

TJ is gone, so it's time for this crew to put their big boy pants on and land what they need.
