Usually, basketball-wise, I'd be pretty confident as well. However, we're talking about the $EC and Auburn'$ $ale$man, Bruce Pearl. If it's down to us, Auburn and Illinois, I like our chances.

Positive news for our chances with Holden

Auburn has landed another transfer -- Bethune Cookman big man LaRon Smith. He told ESPN he just committed to the Tigers. Shot-blocker.

Amazing we made it to the sweet 16 with these bench warmers from Marquette. Marquette must be celebrating their second consecutive NCAA title right....?McKay didn't make it far enough because he was mad he was 4th on the depth chart. Burton left because he was being phased out.
I am not in "the know" and don't claim to be, but I have a really good friend that knows a lot of what happens inside the Auburn program and he told me last night that what he is hearing is...Holden wants to be closer to home but has built a good relationship with Prohm. Not breaking news or anything but from what he knows he is saying that it is between us and Illinois. TIFWIW
Interesting. This would line up with Auburn getting a commitment from the other grad transfer right after Holden's visit.
If it is down to Illinois and ISU then it may come down to the opportunity Holden wants for his final year play a lot or win at a high level. I believe ISU has a lot or more post season aspirations than the Illini at least until the Malou situation is decided. Illinois will most like be able to offer more guaranteed playing time at this time (only returning 3 players taller than 6'7").
If we can't beat Illinois for a grad transfer forward this year, I won't have a lot of confidence in our staff's ability to recruit.
This is a must get.
That's a little extreme
Maybe but recruiting comes down to wins and losses. You have to beat lesser programs. Right now, you can't make a case that Illinois is a better fit for Holden than ISU. ISU is the perfect fit for Holden and we were in right from the start, so there are no excuses.
And for the record, I think we'll land him.

Illinois still has a strong(er) basketball tradition. The kid is from Chicago. They still get good fan support. Excellent school. Assembly Hall just had a huge renovation. C-U is a great city. Don't sell them short even if they've sucked the last couple years.
