LA Tech Transfer Holden visiting in May

And Percy? He had a lot of minutes (more than Holden last year in all but one of his 4 years). He had a 22 PER last year compared to 14 for Holden and much better ORtg and comparable DRtg.

Percy had no P5 interest when he transferred and it's safe to say Edozie wouldn't have either (only 1 P5 offer IIRC). Seems like some pretty decent programs want Holden so that should tell us something.

Yeah and I agreed with that point and why I am cautiously optimistic that they are seeing g something in him. It is also late in the year and a limited pool of big men available and he is a grad transfer not a sit one to play one like percy. So obviously much more attractive as a transfer option. Hence the caution.

Found this. I haven't watched it yet, but might give a small insight into how he was utilized at LA Tech. It is the final game of their season (post season Vegas 16). Edit - just a few mins in he looks raw offensively but active.

Bowie, Burton, Lard, Malou, and Young I think would all see minutes over him. Only reason this makes sense is as insurance for Malou for depth. Not usually what you bring a grad transfer in for unless there is more to his story. I trust staff though and if they like him let's see what he can do.

1. Not effective as a 4 or 5
2. Never played in a college game, didn't play hs senior season
3. Illegibility concerns
4. Never played in a college game

Aha, so that's the problem with Malou's NCAA clearance! They can't read what he writes.

:jimlad:

Where does his scholarship come from? We are currently one over, by my count (N Long, Thomas, Morris, Cooke, Burton, Bowie, Jackson, Lard, J Long, Malou, Young, Ernst, Babb, Carter). This would put us two over.

I know the Ashton news was accompanied by a cryptic "more to come" kind of message. Assume probably means 2 of the following:

1. Ernst is leaving
2. Lard's eligibility is still in question to the point of recruiting his spot
3. Don't feel good about Malou
4. Jackson changing his mind

The others all seem solid.

I'd put my money on the first 2. Those are the most likely IMO.

Kid is extremely athletic..he's a 2 inch shorter McKay with am slightly better offense game finishing around rim..but this kid likes to rebound. He could def be a 8-9 pt and 7-8 reb..with couple blocks a game type kid which is perfect.

Thanks good context, always leary about basing opinions on just highlight videos or stats.

McKay is 6'9. Holden is 6'8.

At the 52 min mark he has some nice interior defense. 53:21 he also has a real nice block after really battling for boards. When he knows where to be on defense, he seems to really hustle to positions like when he hedges on screens or covers a switch.

You'd think with all the luck we've had with transfers, and literally most of them had these same "unimpressive" stats... People would just shut the hell up. Stats don't tell the whole story, watch a game for once in your life.

I'm all for adding Holden, but he averaged 8 and 5 in a much easier conference. I don't think increased minutes and pace would get him to 8 and 7 in the Big 12. Let's just hope he can be a serviceable inside presence.

I guess Huggy, Cronin and Prohm are idiot

The fact that he was coming off of injury last year makes me wonder what he could do after a full summer of training in Ames and with a better supporting cast around him. In the end we need a non-freshman big for next year's team and we don't know if Malou will be eligible.
