LA Tech Transfer Holden visiting in May

When did I ever say "meh" when it comes to Dembele? I think Dembele will end up being a pretty good player but Holden would help a lot more next year. Plus we're not even recruiting Dembele very hard and we're going to put the full court press on Holden so put it together who the staff thinks is a bigger need.

Bowie, Burton, Lard, Malou, and Young I think would all see minutes over him. Only reason this makes sense is as insurance for Malou for depth. Not usually what you bring a grad transfer in for unless there is more to his story. I trust staff though and if they like him let's see what he can do.

Okay with Holden. But curious as to why several have indicated Demeble isn't happening. Link? or what happened?

Lard/Young are too big of question marks for me to think they would see minutes over him. It's not like we're going against scrubs for him, it's going to come down to us, Cincinnati, Illinois or WVU for him.

1. Not effective as a 4 or 5
2. Never played in a college game, didn't play hs senior season
3. Illegibility concerns
4. Never played in a college game

You have no idea

Bielfeldt averaged 5 pts and 3 rebounds before Michigan pushed him out the door and he would have been the missing piece to our puzzle last year. Our guards will be the stars we just need bodies to defend/rebound

My only concern with this is his rebounding, block shot stats and DRtg don't suggest he is really anything like that kind of player. Maybe they didn't use him well as you can't argue with the interest he has. But based on his prior performance I am not convinced Lard or Young wouldn't be better options even for next year.

We seemed to cool on him a while ago and we never really were recruiting him that hard anyways

Huh? Not sure, but thought I read Small visited him again even when we were in the NCAA tournament at the time. Plus, more than one article listed us a being someone who had been one of the teams in on him early and building a relationship. Maybe those articles are too old now, I don't know.

Well actually it is called an opinion. So yeah I have one.

I know that Edozie and Percy Gibson have considerably better efficiency ratings than him and so yeah (gibson's freshman numbers at ISU blow his Junior year at Lech out of the water) maybe I am hopeful our recruiting brought in some guys that can play better than a guy who has yet to out perform Percy in any of his 4 years.

reading from the pay sites we cooled once the big boys were jumping in...

Holden > Edozie

And I've never seen Holden play a minute

Ok, i hope so unless WVU gets him, but there is no evidence to support that. I am getting blasted for suggesting two of our freshman signers may be better because they are "unproven" my only point is so is he. Obviously coaches see something and as I said I trust them. I didn't say he was a bad edition I just think it is crazy to assume he would be a starter or major contributer as many have suggested. He might be and hope he is that good.

This. I mean the guy gave LaTech 23 mpg 8 points 5 boards 1 block... Oh and 5 fouls. If we could get that off the bench we wouldn't take that? C'mon people.

I dont think anyone is expecting him to come here and be DeAndre Kane 2.0 but he at least would allow next years team to play more than 6 guys in a game and feel comfortable doing it.

This! And it's on Prohm to evaluate who he wants too. A lot of posters will be upset if it's not a Ben Simmons type talent visiting.

We don't need someone that scores a bunch. Just need good defense and rebounding. They just need to be able to take advantage of opportunities on the offensive end that they will see because of how good our guards and spacing should be.

Efficiency numbers are worthless for guys like Edozie. He had about 10 total meaningful minutes after non con.

Outside of BDK, who is upset? I think it's great if we land him and Prohm feels like he can help us. I wouldn't presume however he would get the same minutes for us he was able to get at Louisiana Tech He isn't the type of player that is very efficient but just got limited minutes. He has been called a "for sure starter" if we lose Malou and been compared to McKay and I just don't see that in the numbers. That said in a lot of systems McKay may not have had good numbers either. So I hope his lack of efficiency to date is more about Ltech's style than him as a player and I am guessing that is what our coaches must think. I get why WVU wants him. He is a big body that can go in and foul and mug people as part of their rotation and they lost some guys late.

And Percy? He had a lot of minutes (more than Holden last year in all but one of his 4 years). He had a 22 PER last year compared to 14 for Holden and much better ORtg and comparable DRtg.
