Kansas State Fan Here!

Even though we are stuck out in the middle of nowhere, there's still quite a good chunk of good things in Manhattan. It's not like there's only 5,000 people here. We got all the good things most college towns have. And I think recruits find Manhattan a great place to be.

Just like Ames.

I'm not saying Manhattan is a bad college town. Hell, there's AT LEAST several in the Big 12 alone that are worse. Waco and Lubbock are complete and utter **** holes. Manhattan and Ames are much better than either of those. If I was from Kansas, I'm sure I'd have gone to KSU and had a freaking blast, but when the media talks about a place being hard to recruit to, it's usually because it's a smaller town and lacks big city amenities. Ames isn't that big, and somewhat isolated. Manhattan even more so. Add in a little rural element, and you end up with a place that is "hard to recruit to" according to talking heads.

I've found with Ames, for example, that a lot of people like to trash it. 95% of those people have never been there, and the other 5% are Hawk fans. Same probably applies to Manhattan, although I have been there, and I was a bit surprised by how rural it felt, even though it was very enjoyable.

Maybe it's only me, but, I don't see what's wrong with a rural atmosphere.

I agree with you, but when some jack *** on ESPN is calling a place hard to recruit, that's usually what he's talking about.

This is why people think Ames is the worst college town in the nation because it is so easy to stereotype. In fact in the Big XII alone there are at least 2 worse college towns than Ames but yet Ames still gets all the worst press. No way in hell Ames is worse than Lubbock! And Waco is terrible! I haven't been to Manhattan but if the whole cattle next to the stadium thing is true, coupled with the fact that an urban center is far away, no way Ames is worse... I could see them on an equal level.

If you think about it, Ames is always the town that gets the negative press but Manhattan would make more sense; farther west and in prairie land, Kansas as a state actually has quite a lower population than Iowa, like 10,000 less people in Manhattan, more redneck, and farther away from a city. At least Ames has a 20 minute drive to Ankeny/Des Moines. But it's easier to say IOWA State and Ames sucks because it's in IOWA. All in all I wouldn't trade my experience in Ames for anything, great times! I couldn't imagine having a school like ISU in a big city, I like that it's 55,000.

I think they named it "Manhattan" to make it seem more city like...

To be fair, you're stereotyping Manhattan. I don't think you'd find it as redneck as you think. Go more south and you'll find rednecks.

And now with the BioLab, they have one of those big flat things that those big iron birds can land on.

Manhattan has a real airport. Non stop service to and from Dallas is now available daily. In the past, KSU had to fly Texas recruits into KC for campus visits and drive them right by the KU campus to get to Manhattan. That was a recruiting nightmare!

Manhattan is not more rural than Ames. We are 2 hours from KC. Ames is even farther away from a big city. And no, Des Moines is not a big city at all. We also have our own airport which offers daily flights to Dallas and soon Chicago, serviced by AA.

I lived in Kansas for years and made it to Manhattan and KSU a couple times. Great small town, nice campus - very comparable to ISU.

I think the whole "hard to recruit" thing comes from Manhattan not being anywhere close to anything urban. Junction City? Salina? Uh, nice try. Topeka is the closest city and is still 90 minutes away -- and Topeka is not exactly a hoppin' town either.

Ames on the other hand is only a half hour away from Des Moines, which really does have a lot going on these days.

But give KSU credit, they've done a lot with what they have, we'd kill for the kind of success they've had in football and more recently b-ball.

Ames is only an hour farther from Minneapolis than Manhattan is from KC...and.... we also have that town called Des Moines just a half hour down the road which has a lot of cool stuff. Ames for the win!

hi mr. kansas state fan,

how old is the kansas state coach bill snyder???

where did prince go?did he find a job or is he still collecting royalty checks from k-state.

please beat kansas's butt this year ....we need to welcome mr. gill into"THE BIG 12 MINUS 2."

good luck on kicking nebby's butt and senor hawkins and colorado's butt!!!!!!

you'all have a good season except when you play the cyclones.adios my friend.

Good luck this season Iowa State. Paul Rhoads is a great coach and I believe he will lead your squad into the right direction. Rhoads reminds me of Snyder when he first arrived at K-State.

I don't think Synder it anymore, but he sure did have a great run when he started.
No need for you to make the trip to Kansas City,
we are going to win this year.

This is why I'd like to see Farmageddon be a trophy game. We need to make as many lasting connections as possible with the other 3 North teams. Anything to try and keep the turnicate on this conference is huge for ISU.

And if the B12 dissolves at some point, the 4 north teams as a package look a hell of lot better than ISU by themselves. I'm looking at you, Big East.
The spelling police correct you, it's tourniquet. :policeman:

Umm....buddy? I'd check your population statistics again about the size difference between Ames and Manhattan.

Manhattan, Kansas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ames, Iowa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, WTF is Ankeny? And LOL at people caring about Des Moines being nearby. What are you gonna do in Des Moines? Besides visit the capitol and buy Heee-Haw at the Hy-Vee mothership store, of course.

Obviously, you've never cruised the Court Ave. district in Des Moines, it's a crowded party scene there most days and it has some great restuarants. But I agree on Ankeny, it has better shopping, but no night life since it's a bedroom city for Des Moines. Ames has better night life than Ankeny.

I never created this thread for **** talk ********. Just created it for good luck for iowa state. If you guys want to **** talk, to be fair, you guys don't a basketball history nor football history like us :D . Of course you'll say Johnny Orr, but Tex Winter (search him). Jack Gardner?? Hey, I wish you good will too. You sound like a good guy, but you have to understand that Kansas State used to run the score up on us in football every year. It's hard to root for a team that used to beat you up and then the players would flip you off on the way off the field. If you want to talk about it ,I'll be up for awhile.
