ISR Bowl talk

Air Force at Lackland. Really fun...had about 4000 folks at the graduation...they really make a big deal of it nowadays...

Think we had maybe 100 at mine in 1985 :)
Son did basic there. He enlisted in the late spring, but wasn't scheduled to start basic until mid-September...in 2001. Base lockdowns cancelled the start of a couple of classes, so he didn't go in until almost the end of October. His brother had completed boot at San Diego (USMC) the previous July. Lovely time to be a military mom. :)

I met a ton of people down there that were there for that graduation

When I went through boot camp there in Apr 2001 graduation was on Friday and on Saturday you got an all day pass to leave base. You couldn't go anywhere on the river walk without seeing someone in their dress blues.

I figured there must have been a graduation, saw several in the dress uniforms. Was very packed.

I honestly don’t understand the hawk fans showing up. Had a person tell me that their co-worker was going and was wearing full hawk gear. They work in southern Iowa.

I don’t ever see myself going to an Iowa bowl even if I was in the town. If friends called me to tailgate or hangout due to that situation, I would probably wear non team clothing. Seems douchey to me to do that.

I didn't think they usually had graduations over the holidays. The people you saw in their dress blues could have been tech school students who haven't "earned" their civi's yet.

My father-in-law was a big Hok fan. Offered to take us along on a Rose Bowl trip. I didn’t go and don’t regret it. Hok fans are insufferable! And if I had gone, I wouldn’t have been wearing State gear...would likely have worn a T for the team of whomever Iowa was playing.

Every single road and neutral site game I've been to in the last 5 years has had Hawk fans there. Is this normal for other fanbases? How is wearing Hawkeye apparel a sign of support at our games?

Incest diminishes intelligence. IOWA is an acronym for Idiots Out Walking Around.

Tough loss the other night. Great game though. Cyclones win that game 8 out of 10. Was impressed how ISU battled back. Turnovers and penalties ultimately cost them.

It was an exhausting game to be at as a fan. Real rowdy in that stadium. I think ISU will be better next year than they were this year so the future is bright

Will be tough to replace Butler if he goes. And the OL needs to improve big time to make that next step.

Same thing was said about Lazard last year and look how that turned out. I think the OL will be improved next year. Downing will probably take a starting spot and maybe Ramos too

I hate to be that "hurr we beat ourselves" guy that doesn't give any credit to the opponent, but that game really did feel like we flat-out beat ourselves and just couldn't stop tripping over our own feet. Offense was often undisciplined and early in the game just looked lost. Defense was stuck having to make up for that slack.

Ultimately, I thought our D gave us an outstanding game -- the O kept putting them in bad positions, and they still battled out of some of them. We really need to get our offensive timing and pacing squared away (in terms of not taking delay of games/unneeded timeouts and false starts), we gotta get better at finish drives on the opponent's half (preferably with more TDs) and most importantly, we have to improve the OL to move into the next higher tier of programs. It all starts there.

Montgomery and Butler will be big losses. At least we have a couple great prospects coming in at RB, but replacing Butler's skillset is currently an unknown.

Butler is hands down the most talented receiver ISU has had, at least in the last 20 years.
I'm not saying he won't be missed if he declares and is drafted early. I just think that we should remember that there are other players working their way up that may fill the gap. One or two people are not an entire team.

Yeah, Benji, I'm optimistic. You should be familiar with the emotion. Especially when it comes to championships.

Butler being gone would be tough to replace but you'd think Purdy gets better at his reads where his bail out isn't to heave it up for a 50/50 ball to HB.

Purdy was throwing dimes to Butler all year. He wasn't just throwing up jump balls to him all season
