Iowa Beat Writers

I wasn't impressed with either team to be honest. Both teams have time for improvement, but what both teams brought this past saturday will get you beat more times than not.
How is it when Iowa wins this game, Iowa State fans can take the loss and compliment Iowa but then Iowa loses this game, its "well both teams are bad"? It's actually quite the self own

I congratulated ISU on the win. Just my opinion that both teams have a lot to work on if they want the season they want to have. I feel both teams are 7-5 ish at this point. That can change though.

So does Iowa have a really good defense or does Iowa State have a really bad offense?

Probably somewhere in the middle. I think Iowa has a good defense, but obviously they are depended on way too much and will probably wear down a lot as the season goes on. I think ISU's offense is above average. I do love Hutchinson a lot.

Let's make a bet. If Iowa State only goes 7-5, I'll leave this site forever. If they go 8-4 this year or better, you're gone forever. Deal?

Because it is always this way for Iowa fans.

ISU wins - Iowa fans, "It's your Super Bowl," "We need to quit playing this game because it does nothing for our schedule." "Your players/coaches/band are rude, nasty, an embarrassment."

ISU loses - Iowa fans, "ISU sucks," "Hope you enjoy playing in the xxx conference in the five years." "You are our little brother and always will be." 'We don't care about the Cy-Hawk trophy either, we would rather beat Big 10 teams."

No deal. I could see that happening, like I said it is a long season and teams can and do improve over the course of the year. I'm not ready to write my Hawks off yet either, but obviously their offense needs to start showing a pulse soon or they will be home for the holidays.

Turnovers and special teams will kill us this year if we don't figure that out. But Iowa State moved the ball all over the field on a top 5 defense. That's really encouraging. And honestly I haven't ever been wowed by CMC's ISU teams in the month of September. They've usually hit their stride come October.

Franisdaman on HR, along with Doocherman probably are the biggest douche canoes. Don't get me wrong but Chad's take was calling a spade a spade. Eickholt is on the radar. Here is Mr. Panty Liner Franisdaman himself.

The amount of butt hurt in that thread is hilarious. Lmao thank you for that.

I agree with you mostly. Iowa State did enough to win this particular game, but 3 turnovers, and really 5 if you throw in the blocked punts, should not result in a winning effort in most cases. Overall the defensive effort was great by ISU, and 313 yards of offense is acceptable against a good defense. To win like this, you need the opposing team to be equally or more sloppy, and fortunately for us, Iowa was on Saturday.

I wouldn’t make any judgements based on a team playing against Iowa. It’s barely football playing against Iowa.

I don't understand the logic.. Either Iowa's defense is great and caused the turnovers and blocked punts, or we're both horrible. Which one is it? Lol
Our turnovers were a weird fluky fumble knocked out by our own player, a WR miscommunication, and a terrible decision by Dekkers. I will give them the pick by Cooper but the other two TO's were fluky as hell. Iowa's defense is very beatable and we proved that on Saturday. By the second half of the season that Iowa D is going to get gashed.

I felt 7-5 was the ceiling for this ISU team prior to the season. I now can see 8-4 as realistic, 9-3 being the ceiling. I had counted the Iowa game as a loss. Seems like potential for L's abound on the schedule still, as the Big 12 doesn't appear to have any gimme's (even KU looks like they won't lie down for anyone). But the Big 12 is without a playoff caliber team, so could also see ISU beating anyone left on the schedule.

Iowa I had projected as 8-4 (placed a bet on them to hit the over 7.5 on win total), ceiling of 10-2, since they were able to do that last year against all odds. Thought that lightning could possibly strike twice. Through the first half of the game Saturday, I was feeling strongly reinforced in that belief. Over the next 30 minutes, the beer goggles fell off and everyone saw Iowa for the 300 pound chick they truly are, and I think it's clear that barring some kind of whole sale change with the offense, Iowa is staring down the barrel of 7-5 as an absolute best case scenario. I would project 5-7 with 4-8 being the floor at this point. They can still win a handful of games the Kirk way of being stubborn with offensive personnel and play calling, and living off of turning the opponent over and making special teams plays, but as we all saw Saturday, even by generating 5 ISU turnovers for all intents and purposes, it wasn't enough.

If Iowa wants to go bowling this year, a lot will need to change. Season is still quite young, and Kirk is a wily old man that has done this song and dance many times. I would bank on him to get this figure out and at least get Iowa to 6-6 if not 7-5.

I would definitely throw some money on Iowa being bowl eligible this year.

For reference: Iowa State has lost a total of 5 Big 12 games at home since the start of 2017. So unless we are losing all of our road games and one at home, Iowa State only going 7-5 is a pipe dream for Hawk fans.

Oh I'm in agreement. Iowa's defense is going to cause turnovers on teams this year. It will happen. They'll also block a few more punts too. But their offense is so historically bad, that it may not even matter. They flat out cannot move the ball.

Our offense looks competent and our defense has looked stout, granted, again, Iowa's offense is putrid.
