Hilton Tonight

i haven't been to a ton of "big" games, but the game vs KU in 2012 when we got hosed is probably the loudest that ive heard it. Also probably the maddest i have ever heard a crowd at any ISU related event.

Yep there was a very strange feeling in the air that night, and it was abnormally hot inside Hilton which didnt help. I've made the exact same comments to people that it felt like people were just waiting for something to happen so they could start fighting. Easily the most angry crowd I can ever recall.

A+ crowd. I've been to all the the milestone games in the last 15 years and this one is right up there near the top. One thing that's annoying is BOOING EVERYTHING.

Seriously, stop booing every single call.

Niang, obvious travel. BOOO!

McKay, obvious travel. BOOO!

It seriously gets old, the basketball IQ in the building is very low.

A+ intensity, D basketball knowledge.

Let me guess, you are also part of the Court Storming Police force too?

Loudest moment ive ever been a part of was OSU after Naz hit it.....loudest span was probably Michigan for me.

As someone else alluded to, the booing on obvious travels against us was due to anger about Iowa getting away with at least a handful of very questionable moves with NONE of them getting a traveling call.

I was in such shock that I couldn't really react. But I can still to this day clearly see those refs hightailing off the court to a storm of popcorn and cups.

One thing that stood out for me in the aftermath of that game...the KU fans around us KNEW we got hosed as much as we knew it. There was no celebrating & high fiving up in our section...they pretty much picked up their stuff and exited quietly. After hearing that freaking rock chock drone in the Hilton rafters in years past, I'm really glad they were smart enough not to start it after that game.

I was ****** off all the way home, when I woke up the next morning and through that week. I'm still ****** off about it.

It was an angry crowd. To be honest, had I been near the floor that night, I probably would have stormed the floor that night too.

The Texas football game was close to as angry as that game.

Agreed - the difference being that the indoor venue kind of intensifies the tension in the air...

Not that you're not right...I don't know. This team doesn't have the mentality that I would have hoped to see, where they just want to totally shut down their opponents. They do have a great ability to build momentum and play the "long game". I just got a bad feeling about last night's game and was more relieved than excited with the ending - not court-storming feeling. I know it's great to win a rivalry game, but Iowa, while a great team, should be a for-sure win with this roster at home. For the record, I stormed at the Okie State game in 2011. THAT'S when you storm a field/court. Also, Michigan in 2013 as we were unranked, they were top 10. Not opposed to stormings entirely.

This is where I don't understand some fans. Some of you are far too analytical about sports. I've never stormed a field/court (I went out on to the field after the Oklahoma State game, but it was well after it was stormed.), but I don't know why people would have some huge thought process on whether or not the victory was worthy of a court storm. It was an exciting finish. It was a game that we should have lost. Probably less than 3 minutes of real time before the end of the game, we were down 6 with a minute left. That's exciting! I can completely understand why people would want to go out and celebrate that.

I don't know why or how people would enjoy sports if it is such a business transaction or if you refuse to let yourself get any joy out of sports. Why bother if it is more work than fun?

There's a guy that sits up near me in Section 217. For years he has come to games and he does nothing but *****. He ******* when we are down. He ******* when we are ahead. Over the last 4 years there has been very little to ***** about at Hilton, but he certainly finds something. I always wonder why he bothers to come to games. What fun is it to do nothing but *****? The people that have some sort of court-storming algebra are the same way.

I'm one of the old guys you speak of...had season tickets before Johnny so yes, I'm old. The best games for me in the past were

The Big Country game with the floor shaking.

Hearing cap guns going off as Steve Stepanovich of Mizzou was announced (1981 I believe) after he had lied to police about someone breaking into his apartment and shooting him...turns out he shot himself while cleaning his gun.

The game against OU...ISU fans chanting "sit down Billy" because Tubbs always paced and worked the refs. At halftime OU was up and Tubbs pointed at the scoreboard mocking the ISU fans. In the end ISU wins and the crowd starts chanting scoreboard to Tubbs.

And of course the LaFester Rhodes game against iowa.

Those are some of my favorite HCM moments anyway.

Think i was at all of those too....the Tubbs stuff really happened and man did it tick people off. Big country game probably takes it....but that first half buzzer beater by lafester was pretty bonkers too.
Sat in the top row for that game as a kid and all that sound just traveled up.
That place is something else....like a self fulfilling prophecy
