Hilton Tonight

My recollection would be the Michigan game a couple years ago was the loudest for the most sustained time. That was a fairly close game, Dorkie V was there, Johnny was there, Melvin came back from injury in a huge way. Just 100% loud for 100% of the time.

When 3sus hit the tying 3 vs OK st, that might have been the single insanest I have seen it. 110% loud but only for a short time. That was just amazing.

Although, my ears were ringing a bit last night when we got home around midnight. So maybe it was louder than I am giving it credit for.

This was a replay of 1986 Iowa game they were behind 17-0 to start game against moe marble and Armstrong , bit won going away

It's been many years since I've been able to get to a basketball game at Hilton but the loudest I have ever experienced Hilton was the 1999 game against Iowa. I remember we were sitting a row behind Kyle Galloway's family at the very top of the balcony. He was known for being a dirty player and throughout the game whenever he had the ball everybody made sure to let him know how much we disliked him. I just recall it being almost deafening up there that night. It was an amazing experience.

It got loud back in the early 80s when Barry Stevens hit a shot in (triple??) OT to beat Mizzou with Stormin Norman. I think they were ranked #2 at the time. Barry had like 40-42 pts that night. Loudest IMO was Okie St with Big Country. We were down by more than 20 at one point.

This is why I was ok with the court storm. Those fans stuck it out even when we were down by 20. Let them have their fun. They earned it.
Might as well storm the court indoors for bball because it will be a long time before storming JTS

A+ crowd. I've been to all the the milestone games in the last 15 years and this one is right up there near the top. One thing that's annoying is BOOING EVERYTHING.

Seriously, stop booing every single call.

Niang, obvious travel. BOOO!

McKay, obvious travel. BOOO!

It seriously gets old, the basketball IQ in the building is very low.

A+ intensity, D basketball knowledge.

Pick one.

Choose wisely, you cannot have both.

I don't really think they do, but quite honestly, I don't care. If booing every single thing helps get in the refs heads and helps get us calls, boo all ******* game long. That's what home court advantages are.

Have to agree with you on this one. Was happy with the intensity, but man, the crowd really looked dumb on TV and I am a huge Hilton homer. I am all for booing bad calls, but there were a ton of good calls that got major boos. There was a point where the crowd laughed when the refs called something on Iowa as though they were getting away with a ton of stuff...but honestly, they weren't. It was a pretty well-officiated game overall. All I could think was that we are turning into Kentucky or Kansas, where anything they do wrong couldn't possibly be wrong. And I never want our crowd to turn into that with a spoiled mentality...that's not Iowa State. A bit worried about this going forward as this can feed into our players mentality as well (and vice-versa with McKay complaining a lot early).

You do realize they're booing because Woodbury got way with like 10 travels. And ****** when we get called for it.

Also, put me in with the "get off my lawn" crowd that wasn't happy with the court storm. Not that I don't see why it happened, but it really makes us look even dumber. Sure it was an intense, even epic comeback but one of these days we need to start acting like we've "been there" before. If you hate the Hawks, it really rubs their nose in it more if you don't storm. Now they have the consolation of laughing at us storming when they are unranked and we are a top 5 team.

I watched on TV and never once thought that. I thought, man, its freaking intense in there and loud as hell. I would give anything to be there right now.

Surely a #1 ranked Duke would never rush the court against an unranked team either, right?

Not that you're not right...I don't know. This team doesn't have the mentality that I would have hoped to see, where they just want to totally shut down their opponents. They do have a great ability to build momentum and play the "long game". I just got a bad feeling about last night's game and was more relieved than excited with the ending - not court-storming feeling. I know it's great to win a rivalry game, but Iowa, while a great team, should be a for-sure win with this roster at home. For the record, I stormed at the Okie State game in 2011. THAT'S when you storm a field/court. Also, Michigan in 2013 as we were unranked, they were top 10. Not opposed to stormings entirely.

i haven't been to a ton of "big" games, but the game vs KU in 2012 when we got hosed is probably the loudest that ive heard it. Also probably the maddest i have ever heard a crowd at any ISU related event.

"insert apology letter here"

2013 team: "they play too many close games. It's going to bite them in the *** at some point."

2014 team: "they games they're winning are all blowouts. They're not tough and showing they can come from behind to win a close game. It's going to bite them in the *** some time."

I was in such shock that I couldn't really react. But I can still to this day clearly see those refs hightailing off the court to a storm of popcorn and cups.
