Posted in Big 12 because of the effect on Big 12 bowl berths.
Right now the smart money on the four at-large BCS bids is on Alabama, (SEC for sure), Houston (if they win the C-USA championship game, they're in), and Stanford (at #6 right now, they're basically a lock) - which leaves one at-large spot for the taking.
That last spot is probably going to come down to Big 12 (OSU/OU/KSU) and Big 10 (Michigan). I don't think Michigan is deserving, but you can't argue against their fan base and the fact that they are a sexier pick than Kansas State, for example.
So, the Big 12 is greatly helped by either...
1) Notre Dame beating Stanford, which would probably knock the Pac-12 out of getting two bids, and definitely knock them below the Big 12, or
2) Ohio State beating Michigan, which would certainly knock the Big 10 out of getting two bids
Either of these two outcomes would be excellent news for the Big 12 and Iowa State. Of course if we finish 8-4 we may knock the Big 12 out of getting two BCS bids by ourselves. But if ISU loses along the way at least getting two into the BCS would definitely help our bowl position. Holiday Bowl becomes a much more viable option.
Go Irish and Go Buckeyes! (And, go Cyclones of course!)
