Go Irish and Go Buckeyes!

Let's be totally honest though...it's not like the Big 12 has a BETTER case for 2 BCS invites. Either you get a 3-loss OU team, or an OSU team on a 2-game losing streak, or a KSU team who's best win was against Baylor, 2 months ago. Yuck.

The 2 teams-per-conference limit is one of the worst features of the BCS. It screwed Missouri in 2007, and it will screw either Arkansas (only losses to LSU and Alabama) or Georgia (has won 9 straight) this year. Both of those teams are more deserving than anybody else from the Big 10, Big 12, or Pac-12 this year.

SEC is overrated. (Besides LSU and Bama)

I would take Oklahoma/Okie State over Piggy/Georgia.

+1. A Holiday Bowl invite would be outstanding for us. Plus I want a shot to beat a Pac team.

Pac-12 Holiday Bowl invitees look to be Cal, Washington, or Utah... all beatable. I'd love another shot at Utah but Cal may be the biggest name on that list for us to claim victory over... As Lee Corso would say "Ah, f*** it," I don't really care, I just think it'd be a great venue and a very winnable game for CPR to take this program to yet another level. National ESPN audience, only game in the nation during that time, just a perfect setup. Make the Holiday Bowl happen!!!

We do have a good track record with those kind of games this year

I do believe this is what will happen and is the best realistic scenario for I-State.

You really think KU will beat Missouri? (not a slam...I'm just asking.) I'm not saying it COULDN'T happen, or it WON'T happen...but I haven't seen anything from Kansas this year that would indicate they're ready to pull off the upset...especially on the road.

Even at 7-5, it's still possible Missouri gets relegated to a crap bowl. (I know...they're ALL crap bowls after the Cotton. You know what I mean.) No way A&M falls past the Car Care Bowl.

I don't think it matters. I'd bet Mizzou is headed to New York regardless of how the KU game turns out.

I'm talking about the bowl selections. And yes, Mizzou will most likely be the last B12 team selected.

Now, go furk yourself.

I know that the bowl projections put out there aren't always the best indicator, but I have yet to find one that has ISU picked by any bowl above the Pinstripe. I haven't done a deep analysis or anything, but most of the sites I've seen (ESPN, SI, CBS Sports, CFN, SportNation, etc.) have Iowa State in the Military Bowl, the BBVA Compass Bowl, the TicketCity Bowl, or the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. Obviously if they win out, that will change, but it's interesting that nobody has even mentioned it.

Maybe they haven't heard Missouri is moving to the SEC...

Don't be fooled by those sites. Just remember 2009. You guys were 8-4 while we were 6-6 and were selected ahead of you guys. If it was ever going to happen again, it'd surely be this year.

^^This. Most bowl projection sites are about as accurate as Taylor Martinez in a tornado. ISU will be picked before Mizzou.

To each his own, I guess. But if we're comparing losses, there's really no question.

Ark. lost to Alabama and LSU
UGA lost to Boise St. and South Carolina (in the first 2 games)

OU lost to Texas Tech and Baylor
OKSt. lost to Iowa St.

It's strange to throw out the TOP TWO teams in the nation, and then claim the SEC is "overrated." That's like saying, other than Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Northwestern, and Illinois, the Big Ten is an underrated conference.

This is how I hope things go down semi-realistically, if ISU has to finish 6-6.

Fiesta or Nat'l Championship: Oklahoma State 11-1
Some BCS bowl: Kansas State 10-2
Cotton: Oklahoma 9-3
Alamo: Texas 8-4
Insight: Baylor 8-4
Holiday: Iowa State 6-6
Meineke Car Care: Texas A&M 6-6
Pinstripe: Missouri 6-6 (go KU!)

If Tech and UT both beat Baylor and they finish 7-5, we could hop them as well. Better root for the 'Horns against BU anyway since we will not get picked ahead of Texas regardless. Also I'm pulling for KU to give the Holiday Bowl no reason to pick Mizzou over us. Hopefully the conference protects us and the SEC'ers get picked last as it should be.

Best case scenario could be Insight Bowl again. Holiday is a very good option though that has a decent shot.

If we do beat OU and/or KSU, it may not make a difference, because even though we would knock the Big 12 down to just one BCS team, we'd also probably pass Baylor on the pecking order, and so we'd end up in the Holiday Bowl anyway. Baylor could get sent to New York at 8-4 or even 9-3 and Misery would find their own at-large bid in a non-affiliated bowl. It helps to travel well, and it helps even more that Baylor has no fans to travel for them. I would rather not have to worry about that, especially if BU is 9-3... never know what's going to happen. 2 Big 12 teams in the BCS would solve all of these issues.

Texas would go to the Insight and Baylor to the Alamo...otherwise right on.

Baylor doesn't travel at all.

I would bet the almighty SEC disappoints in bowls.

Define "disappoint." If the season ended today, the SEC would be assured of having the SIXTH straight national champion.

As for the other bowls, does it matter? They don't usually match up according to conference rank (for example, the #2 Big 12 selection plays the #4 SEC team in the Cotton Bowl). And I don't think bowls like the Independence, Holiday, or Motor City are a good determination of conference strength.

The SEC is a great conference.......at the top. The addition of Mizzou and aTm will not add to the overall strength of the conference but should make for some good competitive games for Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Ole Miss. Those will be tossup and possible winnable games for those teams. Big 12 will really be stacked by adding even better teams in WVU and TCU than the teams that left.

That's true...except that the top of the SEC rotates around quite a bit. LSU and Bama are on top this year. Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Tennessee have had their time in recent years. The top of the Big 12 doesn't really change: you have UT and OU consistently, with OKSt, KSU, and TTU capable of challenging once in a while.

Certainly the Big 12 will be stronger next year, after 4 teams representing nearly half of the CCG participants have moved elsewhere. And MU and TAMU, that have had a decent amount of success in the Big 12, will definitely struggle to beat Vandy (with no athletic dept.), UK (a basketball school like Duke or KU), and Ole Miss (0-2 vs. MU in the last 5 yrs.)

At least you'll have ISU's share of the "negligable" exit fees to celebrate with. If the Big 12 shares them.

Texas hasn't been at the top of the Big 12 for a couple of years now. Mizzou and aTm are a couple of average football teams. Perhaps Pinkel could go out on the road and stop your recruits from decommitting............if he isn't too drunk. The recruits leaving is probably why he is drowning his sorrows in the bottle.
