Agree. If these were conference games with class in session they likely don't get cancelled. A 10 day break vs a 13 day break isn't going to be that much of a difference when Baylor comes to town. Those of you saying this is lame, and that the visiting teams could have made it back to their respective cities missed part of the announcement. From the email I just received:
“After consulting with both Omaha and Drake, we believe that cancelling both games today will afford the student-athletes from all four teams the opportunity to depart ahead of the storm and return safely to their homes to spend the holidays with their families,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said."
How about we quit complaining and let the teams go home for Christmas?
Players want to get home--let's remember their safety as welllame
Agree he isn't, but TJ almost had his Steve Prohm moment a couple times last year. Granted, we probably would have given him some grace last year.Steve Prohm isn’t in Ames anymore.
Disagree. A two week layoff when Baylor will be playing a couple of games to tune up will be significant.Agree. If these were conference games with class in session they likely don't get cancelled. I highly doubt we miss the NCAA tournament because we didn't get the chance to beat the #289th team in the country per KenPom. Omaha is horrible. But I get your point.
The outcome of a quad 4 game is not going to decide the fate of ISU's tournament chances, unless they would happen to lose.

E-mail states it won't be made upThis might sting when looking for enough wins to make the NCAA tournament. I hope they can reschedule it. It’s not like Omaha is far.
Snow at 1 and wind 30 to 40 mph tomorrow in OmHaHa. I can see why it was cancelledFail. Game could have been played tomorrow. Game would get over at 8. Worst of wind won’t start till Thursday morning.
I meant from our perspective. Of course it will be an advantage for Baylor that they've played a game in the leadup to the conference opener.Disagree. A two week layoff when Baylor will be playing a couple of games to tune up will be significant.
Certainly not saying you're wrong or this graphic is wrong but if the NCAA committee looks at our resume and goes "If only they had that Q4 win that got cancelled" then they're not doing their jobs. Regardless, I hope that it doesn't come to that. The unfortunate truth is that it might.
Bracketologist have determined one of the main factors the committee looks at for teams on the bubble is the raw number of wins. Iowa State is not going to struggle with the other criteria -- e.g., the strength of schedule, Q1 wins, avoiding bad losses, etc. -- given the difficulty of its schedule. The schedule is so difficult that it might struggle on the win total criterium, though, which is why collecting all those free wins against cupcakes like UNO and splitting non-con games with peer P6 (win SJU, loss Iowa) squads is so important.

If Iowa State ends up with 17 wins and they're in the NIT or maybe Dayton, this will be why.
Wind doesn’t pick up till 11pm in Omaha tomorrow. I understand now though that it’s to allow players to travel home today.Snow at 1 and wind 30 to 40 mph tomorrow in OmHaHa. I can see why it was cancelled
Team is going to leave tonight to get home and likely will return Monday. We'll want to give next Friday off so that means we'll have to find an open team between now and the 29th. Not impossible and I'm sure Jamie has made some calls.Well ****. Hope we can schedule something else in between. The reps would be nice and having another blowout would help our net rankings
Showing the probability of making the tournament based on win totals doesn't prove anything. Yes, win totals matter, but that's because they correlate with all of the other things that make up a good resume. You have to win basketball games to get good wins and you have to win basketball games to avoid bad losses. That doesn't mean the committee will look at ISUs resume come selection time and say, "Well, if they'd just had that 18th Quad 4 win against Omaha that got cancelled they'd be in, but as it stands now they are out. Got to have 18 wins."The unfortunate truth is that it might.

You'd think coaches would know this and/or athletic directors. The unfortunate truth is that it might.

Best case scenario is you get something scheduled for the 28th or 29th of December. That gives the team a couple of days to get their legs back from break and scout the next opponent while also giving them enough time between that game and the Baylor game. You'd think coaches would know this and/or athletic directors.
Maybe we'll schedule a random non-conf game down the road but there aren't going to be too many opportunities to do that when you play Mon/Tues/Wed and then usually Saturdays.
