Friday OT #1 - That Funny Old Feeling

I have questions, but probably don’t want answers.

Not at our mutual employer! Mine previously, where a mutual friend of ours still works (I think). He almost definitely worked with her!

Every year, a group of my friends go on a long weekend "guys" trip. We usually try to stay within about 6 hours of the Des Moines area, because the road trip is an essential part of the experience. Call it nostalgia, for when we used to road trip in college, but the experience of all driving together, listening to music, cracking jokes, and whatnot is always one of the highlights of the trip.

Anyway, on said road trip, we'll stop for gas/refreshments, and each of us will buy a bag of Combos. It's just a running gag. Not sure about the other guys, but I don't eat Combos at any other time, other than when I go on that trip.

Yeah, he’s still there. Now I have to decide how to delicately ask if he has a co-worker with magically transforming trousers

Guacamole. In our house we'll get on a guac kick for a bit then feels like we don't eat it for quite awhile till we get a craving for it again.

Thank you so much too @Farnsworth for today’s first thread idea:

What things do you crave or consume on a periodical basis, aka like once a year?

For me, I convince myself once every five years or so that my nostalgia for Spaghettios with Meatballs is because they were good, and not because they are just tied up in my childhood. And every time I cave, I regret it immediately.

What are yours?

Loved those as a kid and still do today. :)

About once a year I get a craving for Kraft Mac n Cheese with hot dogs. It just sounds good and I pretty much survived on that during my last 2 years of college. About 1 hour afterwards I regret that I had it. I know I shouldn't do it, I know that I'll regret it and I know that I'll do it again.

She quit before I did! I can message you her name on FB and see if he remembers her.

Long John Silvers.

Winner right here. This is what made me think of this idea. I'll get LJS about twice a year. It always hits the spot, but then a few hours later I remember why it's always only a few times a year.

Others:

Circus Peanuts. I'm in the rare few that like them, but only get them about once every few years if I randomly see them in a store or they are mentioned. Again, can't eat a ton at one time.

Maruchan Ramen Noodle. Get nostalgic about college times and grab these about once a year in store to snack on. So unfulfilling now and just a sodium bomb. If I'm gonna get Ramen I want real ramen at an Asian place.

Also there are a lot of seasonal things that I don't really eat much besides at the time.

Going to a fish fry is one of those. Not much of a fish fan, or fried foods in general. But around lent time I will hit up a few fish fry's as it's always tasty and a good time.

Like others on here my first thought was LJS. I crave it but really don't have too many post-repast reactions except they must be loaded with sodium because I am craving liquids for the next 12 hours.

Funny @Farnsworth brought up circus peanuts. I haven't thought about them for years. Saw the candy aisle in Dollar General a couple weeks ago and on impulse grabbed a bag. Definitely a nostalgic kick.
