Thank you so much too @Farnsworth for today’s first thread idea:

What things do you crave or consume on a periodical basis, aka like once a year?

For me, I convince myself once every five years or so that my nostalgia for Spaghettios with Meatballs is because they were good, and not because they are just tied up in my childhood. And every time I cave, I regret it immediately.

What are yours?

I just had a Dilly bar from DQ this week. I remembered eating them as a kid and periodically getting them throughout my life. I'm quickly reminded that it's not as good as I remember it being.

I eat Reese's Pieces during the Super Bowl, and that's really the only time. Just one of those dumb traditions that started because it happened coincidentally a couple years in a row many years ago, and then turned into a thing.

(That is not a commentary on Reese's Pieces, which are fantastic. I don't buy them precisely because I enjoy them too much.)

Reese’s Pieces in popcorn is an all-time great treat, and I also can’t eat it or I fall prey to its spell.

Long John Silvers.

Not sure I've ever had that, though it sounds great. Which means I must avoid it at all costs.

I started a once-a-year vacation tradition 2 years ago that is based in nostalgia...

I get a bag of the Little Debbie chocolate coated donettes and eat them throughout the vacation week. I still love to bite one in half and scoop it in a cup of white milk so the milk is inside the chocolate coating for the next bite.

Long John Silvers.

I used to have a coworker. I adored her, we got along great, she was very funny. But once a year or so, she would fall victim to her love for either Long John Silvers or B-Bops.

I say “fall victim” because her stomach could not handle either, and it meant immediate diarrhea to the point where she had backup pants. That she would have to use.

I don’t think I love any food that much; if I did, I think it would be an “only try this at home” endeavor.

I'm howling at "backup pants"

Bbops? Shoot that is my go to on the way home after BB games. Cheap and fast. (Though not as cheap as it used to be)

I bunked with Brian Ferentz in section 8 housing... he was on top.

Not sure this really qualifies or answers the question, but every time I eat a radish I immediately ask myself "why don't I eat radishes more often?"

Long John Silvers.

I was also going to give a nod to LJS. As a kid growing up in rural Iowa it was a BFD when the Brasky family would tie the family Olds 88 up to the Sioux City LJS pier. Now I go there once a year with buddies during lent and every year we walk out and say "we're not doing this again next year". I love and hate LJS at the same time.

Did you say backup pants?
