Ferentz new deal

It was a point of comparison; I thought that would be fairly obvious. But for the sake of making sure that everyone understands what I was saying...here goes.

Iowa was on a worse 3-year streak during Hayden's last year, and Kirk's first 2 years, than Iowa State is on going into this season. Get it.

Do I think Kirk is a better coach than Hayden? Right now, no, I don't - but not even you can argue that in his first 10 years here, Kirk's numbers stack up very favorably with Hayden's first 10.

Please spare me the whining about more bowl games and other such nonsense. All of those things are out of a coaches control.

It was.

How exactly are they blowing it? The football program made a profit of 8 million last year.

Everybody has a right to spend money the way they want to. You can buy a $300,000 Italian sports car or pay a $100,000 for a Corvette that will produce similar numbers.

I think Iowa's paying for that Italian sports car. I'm more a value guy, but like I said it's Iowa's money to blow. They have plenty to spend, so why not?

An Italian sports car (say Ferrari) and a Corvette are NOT the same thing. There is a reason Corvette's don't win Formula 1.

I love it that ISU fans are arguing with Hawk fans about whether Hayden Fry or Kirk Ferentz is the better coach. That is funny.

Yep. I think I'll go register at HR or HN and start a "Criner v. Walden: Whose Legacy Reigns Supreme?" thread. That could be big.

Well I think the feeling is pretty mutual...

Can you please explain how exactly he is a top 5 coach using your logic?

Let's see here.......

National coach of the year, 2 time Big-10 COY.....

4 Top 20 finishes, 3 Top 10 finishes, sent numerous guys onto successful NFL careers, 2 Big-10 titles, 5 New Years Day Bowl games, etc....

And he's done this at a school where you can't land very many 4 and 5 star recruits. Let's see what guys like Les Myles could do without that luxury.

And still isn't able to beat ISU on a consistent basis, i like it.

Because if Cyclone Fanatic has taught anyone anything, it's that the only way to measure the success of a head coach is his record against the in-state, non-conference school.

That sounds like a MontyBurns talking point.

Or, to measure it even more accurately, that coach's conference's overall stats against the overall stats of the conference in which said in-state rival happens to be.

I can name 10 coaches that could via for top 5 rating and have more window dressing than coach Ferenz.

Urban Meyer
Bob Stoops
Pete Carol
Mack Brown
Bobby Bowden(Okay he does cheat)
Joe Paterno
Jim Tressel
Nick Saban
Les Myles(thanks by the way giving me his name)
Steve Spurrier(Ok Kirk had his way with him, but who has a National Championship ring?)

Oh what Iowa wants to do is there own perogative, I don't care too much. I only care about Iowa football one week in a year. Hence why I made that point.

Go ahead and chalk up another 6-7 pages for this quote alone. We'll have 10 guys come in and say in 10 different ways that "New Years Day bowls aren't what they used to be".

Nevermind that only a handful of other schools have accomplished the same thing in the same time frame, but don't worry about it, because New Years Day bowls aren't what they used to be.

Spurrier would have been on the list in his prime, but now now -- he has all but retired in place. While other coaches spend their summers recruiting, he spends his summers travelling the country to play in celebrity golf tournaments.

But you can add Mark Richt (Georgia) and Frank Beamer (Virginia Tech) to that list. And before their recent retirements, Mike Belotti (Oregon) and Lloyd Carr (Michigan), as well.

Just for the record, the Vette ZR1 eats Ferraris for breakfast. Yes, it's over 100k but that's still only a third of the cost for a nice Ferrari.

Is this thread about corvettes now? My favorite car!
