Expectations for 2018-2019

I do not understand the K-State love.

They return everybody yeah, but they went 10-8 in the Big 12.

They were #44 nationally in net rating last season. Texas was better (#38).

They got past a #12, #16, a disinterested #5 Kentucky, and lost to #11 Loyola-Chicago.

They do not have much coming in. Brucie is still their coach.

I think we might be overrating the tournament run and/or the spankings they gave us.

I think they will be somewhere in the #10 to #6 range.

I have them #3 or #4 in the conference.

KU is a clear #1, and I think WVU, TTU, and ISU could get past KSU.

I'm not sure Surly is monitoring this thread, though.

I know hand/grip strength is important and they are told not to throw at each other, but man, that looks like a great way to jam a finger or get concussed.

Just remember, last year K-State was picked (by all of you) to finished 8, 9 or 10 depending on who you chose to adore. So today, it's just baloney predictions at this point in time. No one, including Siggy hereabove, knows how good or bad these players and teams will be until they play some hoops. Only thing for sure is that Texas will be overrated.

2017-18 Big 12 Preseason Poll

1. Ku (9)* 81
2. West Virginia (1) 71
3. TCU 64
4. Texas 49
5. Baylor 47
6. Oklahoma 43
7. Texas Tech 36
8. K-State 27
9. Iowa State 22
10. Oklahoma State 10

Exactly, and i'm sure K-State will be picked to finish 2nd by most here and in the coaches/AP but as we know that "bologna" doesn't mean anything and they could definitely finish 3rd-6th.

He acts like I trashed them. I just said I don't find them a clear-cut #2 above the rest. Finishing third or fourth in a conference as good as the Big 12 is no shame, right?

This is what you wrote:

@surly

I have defended you on here before, but you really do want to pick a fight on this one.

I do not understand the K-State love.

They are routinely being picked #2 in the conference for next year. This is not an utterly unreasonable position, but I find it on the high side given...

They return everybody yeah, but they went 10-8 in the Big 12.

These are facts. They were an average/above average team in the conference last year. They were not pushing KU for the title like was WVU and TTU.

They were #44 nationally in net rating last season. Texas was better (#38). (K-State swept UT)
The transitive property does not work in sports. Their efficiency metrics last season were of a team that finishes in the middle of the conference, not towards the top, and given what they have coming back/coming in, I think they stay there.

They got past a #8 Wookie, #16, a disinterested #5 Kentucky, and lost to #11 Loyola-Chicago.

They had a nice run, but they dodged a steamroller with UVA's meltdown against UMBC and lost to a MVC school (one with the #57 net rating in the country, lower than KSU) when they had a Final Four birth waiting for them. They feasted on a weak path.

They do not have much coming in. Brucie is still their coach.

Am I wrong about either of these things?

Are Williams and/or Trice going to be factors in the rotation?

I did not figure either of them were going to be.

I think they will be somewhere in the #10 to #6 range. (Is this NCAA seed?)

Yes.

I have them #3 or #4 in the conference.

No -- it means I think those four teams will be in the mix for #2 through #5. I trust Huggy and Beard to run out good squads, I like ours for next year, and I actually like yours, too, given what you have coming back. I just do not love it.

I figure those four will fight it out, and KSU is probably likely to end up in the #3 or #4 range, to me, though I could see #2 or #5 coming out, as well.

That part of the standings is always a bit of a mess, right?

Who's Kansas State's starting 5 outside Wade, Sneed and Brown? Those are the three I remember being good. Stokes sucked last year but not sure if he's back or not

Siggy, your tone is that K-State is overrated but your justifications are squirrelly.

You point to K-State getting beat by "the nun" but not that they beat one of the hottest teams going-in UK and Creighton which was seeded higher. You give no credit to two likely preseason first teamers coming back, Brown and Wade. You continue to denigrate Bruce even in the face of threads here arguing the opposite to say nothing for his record. You equate K-State to UT even though State swept them last year. On and on ...

You're making the homer case against a rival. I get that. I'm just not going to let you say it without pointing out the obvious bias and convenient misstatements.
