Remember what the crowd did to Gessel last time he played in Ames?I'm in this category. We have a serious talent advantage and are playing them at home. Unless Georges and McKay get in foul trouble I don't see any way we could lose

Fran is terrified of his bench. He has to have 4 of his starters on the floor at all times. The problem is his starters aren't great either, but solid and experienced. I can't wait to see Monte abuse Gessell on both ends of the court. Mikey might be in tears by the end of this one.
PG Morris vs. Gessell (obvious advantage to ISU)
SG Long vs. Clemmons (Despite Clemmons' superior pass-first mentality, advantage ISU)
SF Nader vs. Jok (Jok is one dimensional,. but he can get hot. Nader is way more versatile, advantage ISU)
PF Niang vs. Uthoff (Uthoff is a good player, but Niang is an All-American and thrives in these environments, advantage ISU)
C McKay vs. Woodbury LOL
These are weird matchups as I don't really like Niang guarding Uthoff on the perimeter. If you put Nader on Uthoff, then Niang is guarding a SG playing the 3 in Jok. Not ideal. Do you put Niang on Woodbury and McKay on Uthoff? Could this be a game similar to Illinois with the small ball lineup? McKay has an individual advantage over Woodbury, but it might be better for us as a team to have Niang play the 5. Iowa is not a good rebounding team.
Boy, sure hope our players don't take things for granted as some of you fans do. Or assume Hilton guarantees a victory. I get the fact of what happened in IC last year (sweet times) but Herkys didn't know what hit them. They know now. Will be much tougher game this time around...and no, that's not a 'worry-wart' point of view.

Iowa's path to victory:
~Attack McKay & Niang and get them into foul trouble
~Win the rebound battle
~Slow the game down and work for the open shot
I can see how the game could be a nail biter if we allow them to grab rebounds and get hot from outside. Over confidence is definitely a concern. If we guard the passing lanes aggressively and battle on the glass we should be fine.
Why? I think it's pretty evident Iowa was a better team last year.
I would be surprised if we have any foul problems. From what I have seen, Uthoff is the only Hawk that goes to the basket. They seem to be more of a spot up jump shooting team. We joke about Jok but he is the one player they have that really can score. Uthoff can occasionallyl look pretty talented but he's pretty passive for the most part.I'm in this category. If Iowa still had Aaron White to throw his body around and make our guys get in foul trouble I might be unsure of this one. But I just don't see any way Iowa has a chance here.

This scouting report is based on seeing them play ND, Florida State and Dayton on the tube. In contrast with others on this board, I though FSU was prettY talented. Will be interesting to see how they are in the ACC.
Also do not think they close out very well on shooters and their rebounding is not as good as maybe in past years.
Iowa doesn't really do this. They play lax defense in transition and chuck 3s at the first opportunity. Fran preaches an uptempo game.

I'm waiting for one of those position by position comparisons. The fact is there is no comparison this year.
Yep, going to a smaller lineup is the most logical decision for Phrom. It emphasizes the quickness advantage ISU has and Iowa probably won't take advantage of whatever size advantage we might have. Even last year, we weren't able to take advantage of our size against you guys.Fran is terrified of his bench. He has to have 4 of his starters on the floor at all times.
