Countdown untill the beatdown!!!

Just glad we don't have to go to Historic CHA this year. Judging by tonight's crowd I don't want any part of that place.

No kidding. That place is about half full and is a morgue tonight. No different than usual. Must not be free pizza and nachos tonight?

Kidding aside, Iowa is playing really well lately. I'm still not too worried about Thursday, but Iowa is definitely capable of beating us if we don't play well. This Western Illinois team they are destroying beat Wisconsin earlier this year. But then got beat by an average Creighton team by 30, so who knows?

Have we discussed the Box and 1 on Uthoff yet? Or playing 40 minutes of hell? Or maybe go to the Triangle or a 1-3-1 motion offense? Maybe give them some Flex looks?

I absolutely believe ISU will win this game, mainly because Niang, Morris, and McKay will not let them lose.

However, Iowa is a decent team this year and I don't see that this game will be a beatdown unless ISU plays their best game of the year so far.

I've watched Iowa several times this year. They are a decent team defensively. They don't seem to rebound as well as they have in the past, yet, they are still out-rebounding their opponents in most cases. They are a much better shooting team, especially from 3, than they have been in the past. Also, they move the ball very well with passing.

Some things to be concerned about......Iowa has played better competition than ISU so far this year, and has fared pretty well, even in their 2 losses. They average more assists, 3 point baskets made and blocks per game than ISU does. Plus, their shooting percentage is close to ISU's, and their free throw and three point shooting percentages are better than ISU's.

This game concerns me because ISU has not really looked like itself, or what a top 5 team should look like, for a full game yet this year. Some of these games should have been blowouts in Hilton, and instead they were 20 point wins not decided until later in the games. Also, Iowa managed to rest their starters for a lot of Monday's game, ISU did not have that luxury. Another factor could be that Iowa was embarrassed last year in CHA. There is nothing that they would like more than to beat ISU at Hilton.....giving ISU it's first defeat of the year, and knocking them out of the top 10.

At times, watching Iowa this year you would think you were watching a Fred-coached team (with less talent than his ISU teams) rather than a Fran-coached team. I say this mostly in referring to their ball movement, and their attempts to run transition basketball. Uthoff and Jok are their main scoring threats, and of late Uhl has contributed.

Again, I do believe ISU will win this game, but it is one to be concerned about and not taken lightly at all, no matter how much you hate Iowa.

If we close out on their shooters and hit a few shots:
ISU 84
Iowa. 71

if we give them open shots and are cold:
ISU. 74
Iowa. 69

Have had recurring thoughts of Jok lighting it up. Think these are nightmares only in the day time.

as an aside, Gesell probably makes worse decisions on the court than anyone who supposedly is book smart enough to graduate in three years. Hope the trend continues.

TLDR. I'm taking this one lightly and think we'll slaughter them.

Honestly this sucks. I've been looking forward to getting some trash talk payback after the football game this year but not a single one of my hawk co-workers gives a damn about the game Thursday. Just try to bring it up to them and all you get is a sarcastic "that's great, you're better than us in basketball. Have fun with that." Hate week is supposed to be about the rivalry and trash talking and all they care about is the Rose Bowl.

Partly a defense mechanism. Wait until February and March roll around, and the media is all over Iowa State's jock. They will be out in full force wearing the t-shirts of whoever is playing ISU.

Winning by 20 points is a blowout unless you're playing a 200+ team. That is what's wrong with the idiots on this board. They expect us to win 100-40 over any non-P5 team. That's not how basketball works.

I know! As annoying as the Hawk coverage was the previous two seasons, at least it made the lead up to this game fun. I'm sure it will still be fairly rockin' in Hilton tomorrow night, but the build-up hasn't been any more exciting than the Arkansas game last year :(.

This is so true. Basketball doesn't matter when they're good at football and football doesn't matter when they're good at basketball (rare). It is annoying and such a typical hawkeye move. Their fans really are some of the more arrogant I've ever come across. Obviously every fanbase has their fair share of bad fans, but it's overwhelming how many Hawkeye fans continually show complete arrogance.

The point was they were not close to being 20 point wins until very late in the games. Sorry, I don't consider those to be "blowouts". If a team leads by 20 or more most of the way through, and is basically never challenged in the game........that is a blowout.

Sorry you missed the point, but not surprised.

Nothing annoys Hawkeye fans more than ISU fans actually having pride in their team. So assuming we have the season we are expected to have, enough Cyclone gloating will get them engaged with basketball. They were literally selected for the Rose Bowl, so they are understandably cold on their basketball team. I have no doubt as soon as the ball goes up, Hilton and most every Hawkeye fan will be locked in on the game. I expect Hilton to be particularly nasty Thursday because of the extreme arrogance we've heard all football season from Iowa fans.

That's the point. Basketball games don't hang around 20 points for the entirety of the game. Teams hang around from 5-10 at the end of the first half and beginning of 2nd. Then the superior team pulls away. How many years were we that team in the McDermott era? That's how basketball works. Were you ever nervous against Buffalo or NDSU? Frustrated, sure. But nervous? Watch more games, and watch how they play out. It's either a complete mismatch like Chicago St, or it's kinda sketchy until the better team pulls away in the 2nd half.

Eh, we'd be pulling the same **** if our football seasons and projected basketball seasons were reversed. Can't really hate on the Hawks for that, just makes MBB rivalry week less fun for us.

I don't envision any way that Iowa wins...we just aren't very good. I'll be shocked if we are a tourney team this year.

Yeah, this is just wrong.

Just a warning, we do not handle humility from Iowa fans very well. Most fans that post on other teams forums just are not very reasonable (exception for Cyclone fans of course).
