COACHING SEARCH: Thanksgiving night update

Generous usage of high-level.

When it is your only card, it better be elite. It has not been, is a very small sample anyways.

I am not 100% sold on Fleck, but I have no clue where you are coming from on this topic. He had the highest rated class in the history of the MAC. Is that not elite?

I keep coming back to Willie Fritz. Whats not to like? Built programs at many levels, has run various creative offenses that fit our personnel, has recruited well at each level, strong juco connections, midwest guy, proven winner.

The trump card for me is that he transitioned a program to FBS and won a championship in their first year. Unreal.

He is in his 50s and probably is not looking at ISU as a springboard to something else.

Im with you Cloner99....

If it gets recruits, I'll let him change our uniforms and add helmet stickers. He even hired a DJ for their home games to get everyone jumping and dancing in the stand during the football games. I would like this too, because I'll stick of all the 80s music and jock jams that we have to suffer to listen to during the games. We want to play music the players want to hear not the old people.

Perfect! DJ sounds awesome, lots of things sound awesome, alternate uniforms sound awesome, just don't put freaking oars on the uniform.....

Fleck without a doubt would bring in recruits the likes of which we've not seen in a long time IMO. Guy might be one the top 3-4 HC recruiters in country...so let that sink in. Not sold that he's the greatest coach or developer of talent but if he surrounded himself with a great staff he would be a great hire IMO. Honestly I figured Fleck wasn't even in the picture as bigger schools would be after him. I've said this numerous times and I still believe it and that is talent wins. The only way we will see ISU come close to competing for the top half of this conf as it sits is to hire a great recruiter as a HC. Just my opinion.

If we hire a PROHM, why not a FLECK?

Sure, if they win or improve the program in that time.

Fleck would be liable to leave before next season starts, let alone accomplish anything- the Chizik type of stepping stone. His recruiting is vastly overrated on CF, although he is all about selling himself, and he is not a development/CEO type HC we need.

Whoa. His recruiting is vastly over rated on CF? Really?

Read the first paragraph for starters. His classes are ranked higher than ISU classes. Imagine what he could do with our facilities to show and a P5 program...How many articles have to be written about PJ Fleck being a star recruiter before you start to believe he is? The guy is bringing in higher rated recruits than ISU at Western Michigan.

i think most of these coaches are going to wait till they see if LSU, Georgia, Texas all become available.

Oh come on..how many kids that are borderline recruits for the top programs in country get a ship pulled last minute for a better recruit? Happens all time. I'm not saying it's great just reality. I'd bet half of our commits are putting feelers out just in case..so it's ok for them to do that?

I'm not saying it is good or bad but I don't think that situation happens very often--where a school pulls an offer from a commit because they found someone better. Seems awfully rare.

I think what Fleck did would have been fine if he had done it upon taking the job rather than waiting for one month plus. And that said, I'm not particularly against him though I have been hoping for someone with more steak than sizzle.

Is there a reason no one is talking about Brock Spack?

I am watching WMU now. Fleck seems cocky/arrogant like Harbaugh and the Chiz. 180 from CPR. It would not bother me to lose him in 2-3 years when he moves up the ladder. That being said, he is driven and results oriented, and doesn't seem to accept or give out excuses.

Fleck may be a great recruiter, but his team is only 6-5 this year. Looking at his record at WMU, I don't see any wins against a P5 team. Lots of wins against Ball St., Ohio, Eastern Mich, .....

The only proper way to ***** these coaches is to imagine if they played ISU with their current staff on a neutral field and ask yourself if they would beat ISU. If the answer is a resounding NO then move on.

So you'll rather have Spack at Illinois St than Fleck who has established himself...at least..as a great recruiter?

I know we all have our opinions on what ISU needs...seems that half think we should try to get the best X and O guy we can and other half or so wants someone who is a stellar recruiter. Both would be best of both worlds but that doesn't happen at ISU. I do think the closest guy might be Fritz given he's a pretty good coach and has a lot of juco connections which does well for recruiting IMO.

Then that excludes Campbell...because we destroyed that team and beat them last year.

I don't think we'd beat Georgia Southern.

I agree.

Matt Campbell or bust. Why you ask, because he can keep our best position coach/recruiter in Ayeni. Also, he is an X' and O's kind of offensive mind.

Ayeni can teach him the landscape of ISU and it would give us a chance to keep some or our positive staff members on board, which I think some of the players would appreciate.

Campbell, has HC experience and he also has experience beating teams he isn't suppose to beat (Arkansas & ISU). To me, our next coach MUST have that on his resume ->beat someone you are NOT suppose to type of mentality.

For those that think he shouldn't be our next HC, then I am listening to why he shouldn't, but as of now I will keep him #1 on my list, which I would gladly send to 'our search firm' (ridiculous).

I'm still on Alford, Frost, Campbell and Fritz.

Stitt - I wouldn't mind but listening to his Montana presser he says that (and I am paraphrasing) "Montana is better than 50% of the FBS level jobs and I am not interested in those". He seems really picky on where he wants to go and I don't think ISU is on that list.

Liepold - puke, I am sick just thinking about him as our coach.

Fleck - seems like Lane Kiffin 2.0, a real DB that will pull a "Chiz" and leave after 1 or 2 years even if he doesn't have success here.
