COACHING SEARCH: Thanksgiving night update

one player versus 23 go figure? Integrity and i doubt way late was two weeks before siging day but hey we agree to disagree i just feel like he has some major red flags and is not a ISU guy.

The biggest difference in my opinion is that there wasn't even a coaching change when Hoiberg cut Armadi. It was just as simple as a better player became available. The same coach (Hoiberg) recruited the dude and then cut him loose. The number of players doesn't matter. I want to win. Hoiberg won. It's that simple.

I want a new coach who wants to win and will do what he needs to do in order to do just that.

Hoiberg did that and nobody has a problem with it.

And I'm saying no school of ISU's stature has tried it in the last 5-10 years, so your question is irrelevant.

Oh, many schools have tried to woo away successful coaches for more money. And most of those coaches have used it as leverage to get raises at their current school. That's kind of how the system works.

It's going to be pretty dang tough to get a successful coach from a higher prestige school to dump they program for a rebuild at ISU. Those guys would rather hold out for an offer from an even better school than they are already at.

Amardi signed in November 2012 (committed in sept I believe). Fred cut him loose June of 2013. I'd take the two weeks before I can even sign over being committed for 9 months and told to get lost.

But it's ok to you because... Fred. It's a business and you have to make business decisions that suck sometimes.

Fleck sounds like a decent option. I feel like no matter what, the instant our next coach has success he's gone. All loyalty can get you here is fired after things go south a couple years after you turn down your better job opportunities. At least that's what the new coach will have on his mind.

Because of this we might as well have a coach that will leave behind the best the roster possible which Fleck could do if he can bring the same kind of recruiting success to Ames. I'd still put Fritz at the top of the list because I hope he could be our Bill Snyder.

Go South a couple of years? Rhoads was historically bad and showed no sign of improvement. It's also not "loyalty" when you have no other options. Not like schools were beating his door down after low-level bowl losses and they certainly weren't after the dumpster fire we've watched the last 3 years.

The fact that many of you don't like Fleck's personality/recruiting, tells me he is perfect for ISU. This isn't about being best friends who go to bible study together on Wednesday night. This is about ******* wins at any cost.

Interesting point. Nice guys often finish last in this business. Rhoads and Tom Herman butted heads all the time. Herman was cocky and kind of a *****, but he took his talents to tOSU and parlayed that into the Houston gig. Now that is going to land him the South Carolina job. He's in a lot better place than Paul now.

JP reportedly didn't care for Harbaugh's personality in his interview and that proved to be a bad call. Harbaugh is a jerk, but he knows how to win football games.

PJ Fleck might be an ego maniac, but if he can sell this program to recruits and quality assistant coaches, he could be the perfect guy to get a lot of talent to Ames. If he leaves after a few years of success he could set up the next coach with a ton of talent.

We are in a position that it is unlikely we are going to get that "perfect" coach that has the profile that we all want, plus the recruiting, plus the style, plus the game mgmt chops. Right now we need to get the coach that can win. If he wins and moves on then fine, if he's a doosh then fine. Just as long as he wins.

By making the program successful. We'll be in a better position to get that "perfect" coach when we need to make that next hire.

Just watched Navy first play vs Houston today and QB ripped it for 60 yds on option. And the lady holding up yellow sign for the navy QB is Hot!!! Can we bring her too?

I feel like this is a poor example. Fred left ISU for an NBA head coaching position. He did not leave for another NCAA HC spot. He proved that he could win at the NCAA level and an opportunity came open at the next level. How many of us would not jump at something like that in our own jobs?

I would agree with if Fred had not reached out to University of Minnesota while at ISU.

Remember when Hoiberg cut Richard Armadi (sp) loose way late so we could sign Kane?

Integrity... right?
If I remember right the reason Amardi was the one who got cut loose was because Hoiberg found a spot for him at Oregon.
Jeff Monken would just as flipping stupid as KN for ISU.
Ok we have established you don't like that style but if we were to go to that style why isn't Monken an option.

IMO, we shouldn't be holding the fact that someone might leave in 2-3 years against anyone interested in the job. Who cares if they're going to leave? If you think they're the most talented candidate and have the highest likelihood of succeeding in those 2-3 years, you hire them. Then, if they leave, you do the same thing all over again.

PJ Fleck- if it is him I sure hope he drops the whole ROW THE BOAT mantra, or if he keeps it then he damn well better not put that crap all over the uniforms.

If it gets recruits, I'll let him change our uniforms and add helmet stickers. He even hired a DJ for their home games to get everyone jumping and dancing in the stand during the football games. I would like this too, because I'll stick of all the 80s music and jock jams that we have to suffer to listen to during the games. We want to play music the players want to hear not the old people.

I think your missin it. Its not that he pulled the offers its when he pulled the offers. 2 weeks before signing day thats an integrity issue to me and i dont want him here. How many times are we bashing kids for commiting to us then changing their minds but you want to gloss over a coach who basically did worse. Im sorry cant overlook that.

Oh come on..how many kids that are borderline recruits for the top programs in country get a ship pulled last minute for a better recruit? Happens all time. I'm not saying it's great just reality. I'd bet half of our commits are putting feelers out just in case..so it's ok for them to do that?

Sure, if they win or improve the program in that time.

Fleck would be liable to leave before next season starts, let alone accomplish anything- the Chizik type of stepping stone. His recruiting is vastly overrated on CF, although he is all about selling himself, and he is not a development/CEO type HC we need.

How is it overrated? He's recruiting high level kids to a directional school.

I keep coming back to Willie Fritz. Whats not to like? Built programs at many levels, has run various creative offenses that fit our personnel, has recruited well at each level, strong juco connections, midwest guy, proven winner.

The trump card for me is that he transitioned a program to FBS and won a championship in their first year. Unreal.

He is in his 50s and probably is not looking at ISU as a springboard to something else.
