Hey guys ... hope you've all had an awesome day with your families.

Not a huge update tonight but here are a few nuggets to chew on.

Remember: Coaching searches are fluid and as I wrote last night, Pollard is good, really good at keeping things hush-hush. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a name of two that we haven't heard yet.

Today, I heard increased noise about two guys: Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck and Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey.

A quick editorial: I LOVE the Fleck option. He's young. He has head coaching experience. He's a recruiter and he's charismatic. I don't know a ton about his style.

I'm lukewarm on Carey but admittedly don't know a ton about him yet.

I guess with the more names that surface, the more I think Rhoads' replacement will be a current head coach from somewhere, which (if true) would rule out guys like Scott Frost, Kendal Briles, Lincoln Riley and Tony Alford.

The current head coaches I think could be involved: Fleck, Carey, Matt Campbell (Toledo), Willie Fritz (Georgia Southern), Ken Niamatalolo (Navy), Troy Calhoun (Air Force), Matt Wells (Utah State) and Lance Leipold (Buffalo). I haven't heard much on Bob Stitt (Montana) but I'll keep him on the list too just in case.

Really excited by Fleck. And, again, still surprised that Todd Monken's name is not popping up.

Also, Western Michigan plays at Toledo tomorrow (Friday) at 11:00am on CBS Sports Network for those who want to see two candidates in Fleck and Campbell go head-to-head. Toledo can clinch the MAC West title with a win; WMU can get a share of the division title with one.

Why does everyone keep forgetting to mention Les Miles in their list of HC candidates? I'm sure he'd like our grass, and LSU is only one letter difference from ISU.

Fleck's recruiting class is about 50 spots higher than ISU's right now, and is beating some bigger P5 programs for them. His class is headlined by a big time 4 star RB. He would instantly improve our recruiting. Key for him would be a veteran, proven DC. Offense is a spread, more pass oriented. However, they are also top 30 in rushing.

PS....in short yardage situations, he puts the QB under center!!

Fleck would definitely be a change in culture. The more I read about him the more I like. Has a CEO mentality.

That is a good thing to do if your line doesn't fold when they get hit.

I think CPR talked about how the adjustment to head coach was difficult (even though he was fairly successful during that adjustment). Considering we have a pretty solid roster by ISU standards, I can see why getting a head coach who is familiar with the duties, and can focus on next year's team would be nice.

I really don't think the new coach, granting they are from the potentials that CW has mentioned, is going to make or break our ceiling for next year. Or our floor for that matter either.

Good list there IMO. Drop Leipold and Stitt. Monken is from Illinois. Maybe he isn't interested in us and has his sights set somewhere else.

I have heard that Fleck likes the spotlight and attention. Kind of a Media *****.

Opposite, although Carey can come across as boring.

Carey- substance.
Fleck- fluff.

Why do you say that? Simply curious. Just a guess obviously on my end who will work out. Fleck is someone I can see the fanbase loving, but we just had someone we all loved and we see how many wins that equaled. My #1 is Calhoun. Why is Carey substance?
