yea, who would want a coach who's only accomplished this?

I dunno. I hear he eats grass. And you can't tell me that all those videos they showed us in elementary school about the dangerous effects of grass were wrong.

Since some think I'm too general, here are a few specific tidbits.

Fleck certainly has come up a lot in text messages and emails, but some of it appears to have originated by his camp, fwiw. There is interest in him, and it's possible that there has been two rounds of informal contact with him already, but that doesn't mean he's the leader.

There is clearly no consensus leading candidate right now but I would personally put Calhoun and Alford on the "not likely" list based on dislike for Alford by some in the AD and Calhoun so far not expressing any interest.

Ken N is considered the strong favorite of many and the "home run hire" but some unofficial attempts by donors to gauge interest by his camp haven't ended well (that's how it was expressed to me by 2 people).

Monkens name come up once late tonight, but it was unclear which side was really pushing the angle. I do think he's on the list that has been contacted, just not sure to what degree since there has been so little smoke.

I had a text from somebody very reliable saying that they know Stitt has been contacted and might even have had an unofficial interview (again, that's how it was relayed so not sure exactly what that means).

Fleck without a doubt would bring in recruits the likes of which we've not seen in a long time IMO. Guy might be one the top 3-4 HC recruiters in country...so let that sink in. Not sold that he's the greatest coach or developer of talent but if he surrounded himself with a great staff he would be a great hire IMO. Honestly I figured Fleck wasn't even in the picture as bigger schools would be after him. I've said this numerous times and I still believe it and that is talent wins. The only way we will see ISU come close to competing for the top half of this conf as it sits is to hire a great recruiter as a HC. Just my opinion.

I like that Fritz knows the JUCO scene. I really think that we can have continued success with him if he gets to Ames.

Fleck is really known as a recruiter. Someone earlier mentioned their 4 Star RB commit. He had a knee injury while originally committed to Michigan and then ended up at WM. He had a lot of high level offers, Michigan, MSU, Ohio State, and lots more. Pretty impressive to pull in that type of talent. His recruiting sticks to the Upper Midwest for the most part, so hopefully he could bring in some guys that know the South/JUCO scene.

Anyone with a brain regarding offensive football knows Ken N would be a disastrous hire.

Why do you say that? Simply curious. Just a guess obviously on my end who will work out. Fleck is someone I can see the fanbase loving, but we just had someone we all loved and we see how many wins that equaled. My #1 is Calhoun. Why is Carey substance?
From following NIU and WMU and tagging along to NIU events.

Not seeing why Ken is such a "Home Run"? I know he has great success at Navy but doesn't he have the same concerns as the other potential candidates who have had success?

He's the only one mentioned who has had sustained success (>3 years) at the FBS level.

I don't see Ken as a home run hire either. It would be interesting, but I'd feel horrible for Lazard, Dvario etc

The next 2 years would be a waste while rebuilding for the option.

WMU is likely bound for a pre-Christmas bowl, possibly adding three weeks to an announcement. Would that be a factor in our decision?

Here's an idea...boosters...stay the hell out of it. Let JP and the search firm do their due diligence, or would you rather upset a potential candidate to the point he sees ISU as a place where he wouldn't be comfortable making any decisions without first asking the almighty boosters.
