COACHING SEARCH: Thanksgiving night update

My top two aren't on your list of names being mentioned... perhaps my hopes are too high.

Greg Schiano: Since I saw his defense give us fits in the bowl game I've been a fan! I like the turnaround he had at Rutgers and I like his NFL experience even though he didn't make it. Saben and Harbaugh didn't make it at that level either. He obviously isn't at their level, but I think he would be a good coach for ISU. Wouldn't be shocked if Rutgers didn't fire their coach for him or Miami gets their old defensive coordinator back as their new head coach.

Todd Monken: I'm with CyFan61. He is definitely trending upward in 3 years at Southern Miss. He was the offensive coordinator at Okie St when they were playing at a very high level. He also has that NFL experience that I value even if it was only Jacksonville.

FWIW, Willie Fritz's Georgia Southern team (newly FBS), beat the snot out of Fleck's WM team this year.

Fleck would be awesome, he's always been my #1 choice. Carey would be fine as well, he just doesn't get me all that excited.

PJ Fleck is not the type I would want to lead the Iowa State program - without going into too many personal details... Just my opinion..

I'd be really happy with Fritz, Calhoun, or Niumatalolo. Wells and Campbell wouldn't disappoint me at all but I'd feel a lot more comfortable with the first three mainly due to the age/experience factor. I'm sure there are a lot of young and less experienced guys who will turn out to be great coaches but I don't want to see us take that risk just to make a sexy hire. We need a proven winner who's been around the block more than a few times.

Western Michigan played a pretty tough non conf schedule. Michigan State, Ohio State, Georgia Southern, and Murray St so don't judge Fleck too harsh by his record.

I really like the fact that Todd Monken has coaching experience in the Big 12 and also the fact he inherited a dumpster fire. Maybe he's not interested.

On all the coaching threads, I haven't see much if any love for Niumatalolo. I have seen a few people show love for Calhoun. Don't jump me if I'm wrong but don't they run similar styles of 'O'. I like Niumatalolo's record, impressive at a school that has to do more with less, sounds familiar to me. So my question is why no love for Niumatalolo?

Please do. I'm not aware of what your are referring to.

I thought the website rumors about Fleck were retracted and an apology issued to settle a defamation lawsuit.

Yes. They lost to teams that are competing for or will win their conference. They also were fairly respectable in all but one of those losses. Then, they pretty much thumped everyone else.

I'm not as high on Fleck as I was last year but due to his recruiting, I think his floor may be the highest of anyones. A lot of the other guys listed could be huge flops because they haven't proven to be great recruiters like Fleck has. He's also going to be a guy that will bring a lot of energy to the program.

Also, Western Michigan plays at Toledo tomorrow (Friday) at 11:00am on CBS Sports Network for those who want to see two candidates in Fleck and Campbell go head-to-head. Toledo can clinch the MAC West title with a win; WMU can get a share of the division title with one.

Awesome! I am in for sure. Play-in for a power lunch with JP!! ... And a nice little warm up for watching Nebby scratch and claw their way to bowl eligibility against #4 IA, against whom they, of course, do not measure themselves.

Les Miles has made some real bonehead game decisions and has consistently underachieved. Don't want.
