Clayborn

I highlighted the most important word in this, also what if he isn't convicted? Does that mean the judicial system is favoring Iowa athletes?

Don't some of you think he is taking this to a trial because he has a good case? Otherwise he could have ended this last spring by pleading guilty, getting slapped on the wrist from the judge and probably suspended for the UNI game.

You must be new around here. The court system in Johnson county favors Iowa athletes, specifically football players.

No....guilty before innocent, thats the drumbeat around here. At least for some people.

Sorry about the incorrect name...my bad. No, I don't think everything will be all right. I would expect the same types of things to happen next year, and will continue to happen. But everything will be just fine with Iowa fans as long as the program is winning. Right?

You probably expected the same type of things to happen this year...sorry you had to suffer through that disappointment.

Why not? That seems to be the standard operating procedure in Ames. Didn't Jason Berryman trade his state-issued pinstripes in for a Cyclone uniform? You guys were thrilled to have him back. Mac was a wonderful humanitarian for giving the young man a second chance. But then again, I'm sure you stood alone in your opposition to Mac reinstating him back on the team. Right Stewo?

Good God,

Please do not tell me you are that stupid. HUGE difference here. Berryman was actually, GASP, KICKED OFF OF THE TEAM for his transgression. Yes, you read that correctly, KICKED OFF THE TEAM and served nearly a year in jail. The trial was not delayed for over a year. He served his time as sentenced by the court. Do I agree with him being given a second chance? No, I did not. Mac gave him a second chance. I did not agree with it at the time and I still don't. The end result was him messing up again. The huge difference here is the fact that Clayborn's trial has been conveniently delayed so he can star on the field for the upstanding HOK program.

You're right -- there is a huge difference: Clayborn hasn't been found guilty of any crime.

Sorry, but I just had to throw that out there.

Yeah, I think he's trying to get you to understand the part where Clayborns trial has been delayed until after the season and youre still not getting it. So he cant be found innocent or guilty until after the season. I think Clayborn is a bad example because from the story that I heard about what went down, I probably would have punched the cab driver too.

I was waiting for this to come up. First of all, it's by no means "standard operating procedure in Ames". Coming from an iowa fan, that's just plain epic! Secondly, Jason served his time. He paid his dues and was allowed the chance to right the ship and have a second chance. Is it right that he got that chance? In hindsight, no. At the time? It probably was. Moral of the story? Jason's trial wasn't pushed back and then pushed back again so it could allow him to play the entire season and the bowl game. Your arguement is weaksauce. Your presence here is weaksauce.

You apparently have no idea how the legal system works if you are complaining about trial dates being pushed back.

And you really have a problem if you think the University of Iowa had anything to do with that.

Well, the Iowa athletic program seems to keep the Johnson county court system pretty well overloaded.... so I think you could say they do have something to do with it.

Finally someone is starting to understand why a trial is taking place with something so minor in the first place. Maybe just maybe Clayborn isn't guilty like most people on here already think.

It does happen, you're right. But, since you seem to know the case on a professional level, please inform us as to why his court date has now been pushed back twice? His pretrail was originally scheduled for Jan 6th, one day after the Orange Bowl game. I know that it was just recently that his trial was pushed back again. While this all may seem to be one huge coincidence, it seems a bit far fetched.

Then why not get to court and prove it?

It's been an eternity since this happened and I'm fuzzy on the details. But I'm curious to hear this story of how the events unfolded as I can't figure an explanation of getting out of your car and jacking another driver - lest they ran into your car. Not really trying to say guilty - but I'm having a hard time finding the innocent scenario.

So 4 guys to appear in court in 2009 (3 football players in April, and Tucker over the weekend) is overloaded? Damn how do I get a job like that where you only have 4 things on your plate in a year and be considered overloaded?

Sorry, but a 70 year old judge doesn't give a **** if a trial is during a players season or not, they aren't paid by the University of Iowa, they didn't take an oath of office to uphold University of Iowa standards, they uphold the law and run it accordingly and set trial dates by dockets they have to follow.

I am as diehard of an ISU fan as you'll find, and a graduate, but this whole argument about not going to the college of the team you root for by ISU fans especially is stupid. The only reason Iowa has more fans who didn't got to Iowa is because they have won more and the best thing an ISU fan can hope for is that we get more fans who never attended ISU because that only wins we will be winning more.

Do some of you making fun of Iowa fans who didn't go to the UofI really know what your making yourselves look like? Just wondering.

I agree. It's a head-scratcher to me. I heard some ISU fans play this card during the Iowa game (football), and just had to shake my head. It's just a stupid argument.

Oh, no... Did you call me weaksauce? Ouch, that one hurts.

Lighten up Francis. It was a joke. Notice the little ""

You going to deny Iowa has had the police blotter pretty filled up over the years? Perhaps I should say that the Johnson county court system is finally getting caught up? That better?

But since we're playing, it seems to me that Berryman (since he was brought into this discussion) was arrested, had his court appearance and was pretty close to being released, in the time it's taken this to even GET to trial. Coupled with the fact that Mr Clayborn won't miss a second of playing time to deal with these issues (barring another delay or two that may impact spring ball)... well I just find that interesting. Especially when several here would like to point out how "minor" the incident is.

Just so everyone is clear, especially Iowa fans who are new to the site.
