Clayborn

Yeah, most of us are screwed with Pro teams since there are none in the state. I always find peoples fan connection with Pro teams interesting because of this. Sometimes there is a good story there.

I personally don't subscribe to the notion that you have to be an alum to be a fan. I wish ISU had more casual fans than we do though I appreciate the die-hard fans we have, alum or not.
I would be interested to find out what percentage of Iowa (and ISU) fans are alums though. I think it would be an interesting stat.

Apparently to some of these guys it's a negative when a program has fans that aren't alums. I don't get it either. Seems to be some kind of bizarro point-of-pride or crutch for fans of less popular, lesser known programs.

It stems from the perception that a majority of Iowa fans are not alums. True or not. Basically, it is insinuating that non-alum fans are bandwagon fans.

Personally, I find it amusing when Iowa fans that I work with claim to be big Hawk fans, and don't know anyone other than the QB on the team.
I asked one of them about Dallas Clark and Bob Sanders and they said "Who?".

A lot of Iowa fans are fans because their whole family are hawk fans. Family is probably more important than what school you go to and not every fan can go to Iowa or even go to college for that matter.

I am as diehard of an ISU fan as you'll find, and a graduate, but this whole argument about not going to the college of the team you root for by ISU fans especially is stupid. The only reason Iowa has more fans who didn't got to Iowa is because they have won more and the best thing an ISU fan can hope for is that we get more fans who never attended ISU because that only wins we will be winning more.

Do some of you making fun of Iowa fans who didn't go to the UofI really know what your making yourselves look like? Just wondering.

This. Iowa should definitely contend for a Big 10 title and at-large BCS berth. Hard to think that they'll pull off the undefeated season though. It just seems that they always have something go wrong (like ISU) at the wrong time.

And you know none of these guys went to Iowa. I assume you're trying to rile them up?

I know, those "casual" fans and all the expendable income they use for tickets, donations, and merchandise can't possibly be a good thing.

Or maybe it was a legit question and you're trying to rile them up?

LOL...just getting to know them better

Wait. So, even if convicted of assault, he'll be welcomed back? I mean, that seems like it should be grounds for getting your *** kicked off of the team, right? Am I the only one with this thinking?

Probably, unless you're one of the people who thought Kennard Banks should have got the boot back in October.

This makes no sense. Weren't the charges against Banks dropped? The charges against Clayton are still pending, and he is going to trial. If he is convicted, how are the two even remotely comparable?

With the comments on the article about Clayton in the Register, the Iowa fans are rejoicing that he is coming back, and ignoring the charges. Guess winning covers everything. One even calls him his hero! Wow, just wow.

Who's this Clayton fella you're talking about? And why even throw out the question "if he gets convicted?" Let it play out.

FWIW, I went to Iowa for 2 1/2 years and graduated from Iowa. I cheer for both schools.

Well, as long as Iowa fans have people like you standing guard, everything will be all right, won't it?

Sorry about the incorrect name...my bad. No, I don't think everything will be all right. I would expect the same types of things to happen next year, and will continue to happen. But everything will be just fine with Iowa fans as long as the program is winning. Right?

If I had a nickel for every serious title contender that was knocked out of contention by Northwestern, I'd have....five cents.

WTF difference does it matter who beat Iowa? Forget that it was Iowa, but if the #4 9-0 BCS team that needed 3 more wins and a Texas loss isn't a serious contender to play for the national title could you explain what makes a serious contender?

I highlighted the most important word in this, also what if he isn't convicted? Does that mean the judicial system is favoring Iowa athletes?

Don't some of you think he is taking this to a trial because he has a good case? Otherwise he could have ended this last spring by pleading guilty, getting slapped on the wrist from the judge and probably suspended for the UNI game.

That is not the point. Look back in the thread. Banks got drug into this for comparison, and there is none. The charges against Banks were dropped. Clayborn's charges are still there and it is going to trial. How are those two comparable? They aren't. Even if he wins his case, they still are not comparable.

Why not? That seems to be the standard operating procedure in Ames. Didn't Jason Berryman trade his state-issued pinstripes in for a Cyclone uniform? You guys were thrilled to have him back. Mac was a wonderful humanitarian for giving the young man a second chance. But then again, I'm sure you stood alone in your opposition to Mac reinstating him back on the team. Right Stewo?

Why is that? Iowa was 9-0 and ranked #4 at one point and a serious title contender this year, having one of the top 3 DL's in the country next year means they will be in the discussion at the beginning of the year next year and not by just Iowa fans.

I dont think its laughable, but I also dont think it's realistic. If you can get past mighty Eastern Illinois, you still have Arizona at Arizona. I think if they would have started the qb that they ended up putting in towards the end of that game, they would have won. Also, NW which has always had your number. Even with one loss, I think there will be the same situation as there was this year with multiple undefeateds.
