Chris Colvin

The fact that Jamie is allowing this to go on is downright laughable. How could he possible sit down, objectively look at this situation, and say "Greg, I think you have us headed in the right direction." We are poised to, at best, bring back 6 scholarship players on a team that graudated 1 senior last year. What are we bringing in to fill those voids? One kid who is believed to be a solid defense stopper with limited offensive abilities, an unproven JuCo, and a big kid who will take a few years to develop. Add to that a patch work of other unproven JuCos, and we are in for one hell of a trainwreck.

Greg, quit your job. If you quit, all the players your bringing down with you can get an immedately release and go find new teams. You've managed to sink this once proud program, it's your time to go. Somewhere, an NAIA team needs a coach with your abilities.

"Unproven JUCO" - oxymoron.

His plan, apparently, is to start over from scratch using Marshalltown Community College's roster, we will see how that goes.

Seriously though, how could you possibly recruit a kid to this program now? All but about 2 players can find it within themselves to spend more than a year around McDermott, we don't win, we have coaches bailing on us, and we have a coach who is seemingly just waiting around to be fired. The program is a farce, and if we can see it, so can recruits.

Just for giggles - where does the money come from to fire GMac? Then most importantly - how do you come up with the $2MM plus to hire any kind of coach based on the recent round of coaching contracts and hirings at far lesser schools?

I don't quite have the logistics down, but looking around at other schools who have recently fired coaches that were still under contract, I would imagine we could find the money too. Seeing schools like Seton Hall, St. Johns, Depaul and Wake Forest (who admittedly, probalby does have a bigger budget than us) can their coaches for their lack of production is sickening as we sit by idlely and let McDermott run our program furter into the ground. I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the fact that we can't pony up the cash to get rid of him.

You're right, saying unproven JuCo suggests that there is such a thing as a proven JuCo, which is wrong. The point remains the same, however, that the way he has operated this program leaves us scrambling to pull in what is left in the JuCo ranks.

Who's to say that there hasnt been anyone willing to step up and pay for a good part of it? It has been rumored around here....

I have heard from a good source that Pollard is really ticked off right now. Trust me he believes that the situation has changed drastically. Like I said I truly believe we will be in the middle of a coaching search at this time next week.

Why WOULDN'T we all trust you?

Put it on a credit card with a good rewards program. For the sake of humanity, do something.

Its not the getting rid part, its the replacement part. We're an Ag school - we don't have the thousands of doctors and lawyers to fund the program. We're lucky we have the benefactors we do but I seriously doubt they have the financial muscle to fund not the termination, but a coaching search for someone with the proven track record we all seem to think we must have.

IMO Hamilton is a Bigger Loss than Colvin

I can understand people's frustration with the revolving door of players- but IMO the loss of Colvin might be a good thing. Remember this is the same kid who was suspended after the Duke game. Sure Colvin is a talented player, but even after his return from the suspension, he still seemed like a player who sulked when things didn't go his way. Can Colvin be a solid Big 12 player if he matures? Sure but I'm not sure that was a given.

I understand peoples desire to get rid of McDermott, but given the fact it's mid April- Is it better for ISU long term prospects to have McDermott back for next season? Say GMac gets canned- Does anyone think that Phillips, Ejim, Railey or any of the spring prospects currently being recruited with end up at ISU?

I look at the 2010 Roster if GMAC is canned. At this late date, I doubt a new staff could sign anybody decent this spring to add to next falls roster

PG- Garrett & Palo
SG- Christopherson, Boozer
SF- Oliver
PF- Vanderbeken, Dorr
C - Dendy

That would mean the 2011 would have 2 returning scholarship players (Christopherson & Oliver) and we would have a recruiting class of 11 players!

If GMAC stays and can keep current recruits on board & add a couple JUCO players this spring our 2010 roster would look like:

PG- Garrett, Phillips & Palo
SG- Christopherson, Boozer, JUCO/Prep
SF- Oliver & Ejim
PF- JUCO, Vanderbeken & Dorr
C - Dendy, Railey

Even if GMAC would get canned after next season- we would have Phillips, Christoperson, JUCO/Prep guard, Oliver, Ejim, JUCO PF back in 2011.

Either scenario is pretty scary- but it might be better if we can somehow make lemonade out of this spring's departures (ie. The players we add to next seasons roster: Phillips, Ejim, Oliver, Railey, JUCO SG, JUCO PF, JUCO/Prep Sch ANY POS are better than our defections: Colvin, Hamilton & Buckley.)

Iowa hired McCaffery, someone with a proven track record - for $1.1 mil per year - why is that so impossible here?

ESPN says Wake Forest's top target is Colorado's coach Jeff Bzdelik...I am extremely unhappy with where the ISU program is at and has been under McDermott's watch, but what coaches are available that fans would be happy with AND would come to ISU? I would not be excited with a Bzdelik hire. In our current state, who is to say ISU is a more attractive job than Wake Forest and could attract a better/more exciting/ more effective coach than Wake Forest can?

Any effort to positively spin another transfer occurring under McDermott's watch, especially the one player that has fans excited for the future has got to be influenced by koolaid. Colvin did not sulk more or have worse body language than one of our players slated to be drafted to the NBA this summer. I want him to stay, and I would argue ISU needs him to stay.

Either way, that is a koolaid lineup.

How in the hell does an AD fire Dino Gaudio and then target Jeff Bzdelik? It makes no sense.
We need to go after Gaudio after Gmac is ushered out - hopefully in the next few days. Our budget is almost the same as WF's - if he can do it there, he can do it here.

To be honest, Gaudio did nothing at Wake Forest. He had premier talent and I'll give him credit he can recruit, but he did nothing with it, and at his previous stop where he was a head coach before Wake he did a less than impressive job.

If McDermott takes any money of a buyout he should be charged with embezzling, or robbery.

So are you suggesting wait a year or two, potentially fire McDermott (this is based off what I feel is a somewhat sound assumption that we will suck next year), and then we will be in a better position to find a coach? Every year McDermott spends running us into the ground just makes us even more irrelevant.
