Chris Colvin

JP knows he's going to hand over at least 2 million to Greg. 2.5 this or 2 next. What's the differenece? Can JP really not find an extra 500k?? The decision just comes down to that 500k, not 2.5 million. Buyout of our hire is another expense regardless.

You have to factor in some kind of cost-benefit analysis here too. If McDermott stays, I would imagine ticket sales will go down, maybe not substantially but enough to catch JP's attention. With McDermott around, losing the guys we have, there is no excitment surrounding this team. If he was fired and someone else was hired, there would at least be an element of excitement. More people would come and support the team because they'd be intrigued by a new coach and a new system.

I haven't read this whole thread...but I cannot for the life of me figure out why this would be a surprise to anyone.

You're right, saying unproven JuCo suggests that there is such a thing as a proven JuCo, which is wrong. The point remains the same, however, that the way he has operated this program leaves us scrambling to pull in what is left in the JuCo ranks.

Doesn't that mean "unproven JuCo" is redundant, not an oxymoron?

So are you suggesting wait a year or two, potentially fire McDermott (this is based off what I feel is a somewhat sound assumption that we will suck next year), and then we will be in a better position to find a coach? Every year McDermott spends running us into the ground just makes us even more irrelevant.

No I'm not suggesting waiting. Prior to this offseason I was willing to give McDermott one more year, on the condition that the attrition did not continue as it had in the past years. With Hamilton, Buckley, Robinson, and potentially Colvin leaving, the condition I set in my head was not met. I don't want ISU to spend $2 million plus to fire McDermott, and be stuck with a coach that can't get the job done. Change for the sake of change only leads to trouble.

Those people calling for change, hopefully understand the limited field of quality coaches available at this time as well as the impact any change (positive or negative is debatable) will have on this spring's recruiting. I am looking for realistic quality coaches that want to come to ISU and would energize the fan base. I would hope that McDermott would not accept any buyout and step down for the good of the Iowa State program at this point.

It doesn't have to be a surprise to get ****** off.

Pretty much done getting ****** off. I have become resigned to the mens basketball program being bad for the time being. Kind of numb.....none of this stuff surprises me any more. Just the state of the program. It is a shame, because Iowa State mens basketball used to be my favorite sports team. Oh well, the Twins are off to a 5-1 start.

Yep...no use getting ****** off now. I was ****** off in Decemeber...that is well over now.

Alright if this is like football and a "staff gets fired" do we have to pay for the asst b-ball coaches as well? If so...Otz goes as well...let's cut the bait and run! We'd be down 2 coaches, so less buyout.

The buyout doesn't worry me now ...today some high profile Clones won 40-1 on there horse down in Arkansas. Just think IF Pollard placed a bet...even better what a $100,000 bet paid today, that is some serious cash!

Pollard I hope you listened to the Clone fans that owned that horse and made that bet, all would be taken care of, I just would love to see the DSM Register article explaining how the buyout cash came to be.

April 14, 2010 begins the b-ball spring regular period initial signing date through May 19th, 2010

This is probably correct. If announced now, it would only give an opposing coach more ammo to use to recruit against us. "Look, another player has left McDermott's system..."

Colvin's facebook status, for those that like to decipher those.
"If u can 't let go of ur past relationship than don't get into the future ones becuz all u gonna do is hurt somebody else"

Sounds like he's talking about a woman to me.

IF Colvin leaves, someone else will step up. Can't see where we would lose any scoring, or assists. And his D was just OK. What are we missing if he leaves?
