JP may have to keep GM out of financial reasons alone.

After 1 or 2 years....the recovery time for this program will be staggering.

The situation is so bizarre...I find myself laughing out loud and having perverse pleasure at how bad GMac is in the position.

I know I should be alarmed/raising hell...but I am way beyond those feelings. The inept management of our program is a shining example of 'peter principle'.

The only entertainment left are the couple of GMac 'supporters' left on the board that have yet to make an appearence with the latest defense.

The way things are going, Carver will have more fans in five years when McD is finally let go.

1Last 10 years...4 NCAA's to our three. 2 NIT's to our 1 and a final four to our elite eight. They pay their coach industry average and middle of the road in the SEC. Less than half of what the top three in the conference get paid. 2Their coach who has made the post season 1 time in four years and 3followed a guy that made the post season 6 of 8. They fired a guy and 4did not go for a big name and did not throw money out there that they have to spend.

And you are absolutely kidding me if you are comparing LSU's $$$ to ours. They have the third largest budget in the SEC with $75.8 million. We are second to last in our conference with $46 million. They gave their University $5.7 million we take $3+ million. 5They are the only game in the state and 6their 92,400 seat stadium becomes the second largets city in the state on game day. Our stadium seast half and doesn't sell out after October 15th. They have an SEC tv contract. WE have a Big 12 contract. Talk about not knowing what you are talking about..... 7LSU has very, very deep pockets. They could buy out their coach tomorrow and go out and pay top dollar if they wanted to to get whoever they want. Much moreso than ISU.
$75.8 million> $46 million.

Wow, your ignorance is staggering. First, let me correct all of the inaccuracies of your post that I highlighted:

1) You better go look at your calendar. In the last 10 years LSU has been to postseason 6 times (NIT 1st Rd, NCAA 1st Rd, NIT 1st Rd, NCAA 1st Rd, NCAA Final Four, and NCAA 2nd Rd most recently) while ISU has been to postseason 4 times (NCAA 1st Rd, NIT 2nd Rd, NIT Semifinals, and NCAA 2nd Rd most recently). It was 11 seasons ago that ISU made the Elite 8. LSU was in the Sweet 16 that year by the way.

2) Trent Johnson has been coach at LSU for 2 seasons...they have made the NCAA one of those two seasons. Prior to that he was coach at Stanford for four seasons making postseason every year (3 NCAAs including a Sweet 16 and 1 NIT). Prior to that he was coach at Nevada for five seasons making postseason twice (1 NCAA Sweet 16 and and NIT).

3) Johnson's predecessor at LSU, John Brady, made postseason play in 5 of his last 8 years at LSU.

4) Trent Johnson was very much a big name hire when LSU hired him. He was coaching at Stanford (you may have heard of the school...they play in the Pac 10 and have a very good MBB tradition) and was having great success there. I am not sure what you consider "throwing big money out there" but Johnson has a five-year deal at $1.2 million per year which does not include potential postseason and academic bonuses of up to $800,000.

5) Clearly, LSU is the flagship university in Louisiana. However, they are not the only game in the state...ever heard of the Hornets and the Saints. Not to mention, the ULL Ragin' Cajuns play FB in a 31,000 seat stadium that has additional capacity on hills behind the end zones (sound familiar?).

6) While Death Valley certainly is a big stadium, there are 9 cities that have a population over the capacity of Death Valley in Lousiana.

7) LSU does have a nice athletic budget...primarily due to their commitment to winning in FB and their participation in the SEC. But the fact remains that LSU does not have a deep pocket alumni base. They have driven revenues upward with mandated "donations" to get FB tickets...something that puts a strain on a lot of folks but they sacrifice to do as long as LSU wins big. The school is an ag and engineering school just like ISU is. LSU has also established a pretty solid corporate partner program that has helped revenues. But, generally speaking, the state is not considered to be a high income area.

About the only thing accurate in your post is that LSU currently has an athletics budget that is greater than ISU's...congrats to you for at least getting something correct in your post!

By the way, in the last 10 years, LSU’s annual athletics budget has grown from only about $30 million to where it is today (more than $75 million)...primarily because of two football national championships and the rise of the private fundraising arm called the Tiger Athletic Foundation.

Game. Set. Match. Tournament. cyclonenum1.

Are we actually comparing LSU to ISU?
I love ISU, and I think we are far from maxing our potential, but at this point in the industry of college athletics, what does ISU have over LSU?
