Chicago People I Need Your Help.

5* for the Capital Grille, that is the best steak I've ever eaten (Ribeye) in my 40 years. I ate at Gibson's the night before and it was no comparison (though very good in it's own right). I still salivate thinking of the Capital Grille (Not in NYC though, it was very disappointing compared to Chicago)

Probably can't go wrong with any steakhouse downtown. I've been to Morton's and The Capital Grille, both of which were very good and about what you would expect price-wise. You may actually have a more private table at Capital Grille. Also, it's kind of nice to celebrate and relax during dinner with some champagne or wine, so proposing during a walk around Millennium Park beforehand wouldn't be a bad idea. You can enjoy dinner that way. Congrats!

I'm proposing to my girlfriend in Chicago in the second weekend of August and I'm in need of a good restaurant to go out to dinner (I might propose then or later at a park haven't decided, but probably at dinner). So I'm looking for something romantic where she can dress up. Afterwards I was thinking about going to celebrate at nice bar or something. I'm not looking for $100 dollar plates or anything, but something pretty nice and maybe low lit (cuz I'm ugly :jimlad:).

Thanks for the help in advance.

It will all depend on how much you want to spend. I know a good, candle-lit restaurant (upstairs) and am friends with a few people who work there if you need some inside hook up **** (including the guy in the video below, but haven't seen him for months). The restaurant is French Vietnamese, and the inside of it looks like French Indochina in the 1920s. Entrees are $18-$33..average being around $23-$26/plate. For Chicago standards it's not cheap, but it's not expensive. Nice place though. Look up Le Colonial on Rush Street. It's a short walk from the Signature Room too.

I think Signature Room on the 95th would be nice too though, whether it's proposing there or after proposal dinner.

Regardless, congrats!!

Very good food.Best roast pig and Mac and cheese I've ever had. The crab cakes are
out of this world.Sit on the patio and you'll have a great night.

Authentic Nuevo Latino cuisine, private parties – Chicago - Carnivale Restaurant

Great food and atmoshere.Love this place. It has
Seleccion Suprema tequila in most of its drinks.

Southern is no where close to what TheCaptain describes (sorry Captain). Great patio and bar, that's about it. Food is average at best, and the atmosphere isn't what you've described as desired.

Carnivale is a great restaurant and a lot of fun. I wouldn't call it romantic but would be a good option for dinner on a separate night.

Yelp is a great resource for Chicago. Anything with over 200-300 reviews and is still 4 stars, you won't be disappointed.

Couldn't find the North Pond rec, but props to that poster and add that to the list I posted earlier in the thread. Meets all your criteria and would be a very memorable spot. This restaurant is located IN Lincoln Park.

North Pond Restaurant | Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois

That is a good restaurant too and a good suggestion. Romantic place. Main entrees are a little expensive, but hey he said not $100/plate :jimlad: They will probably be from $35-$45 for a main entree here. Dressy attire is pretty much required. Then catch a cab or something after down to the John Hancock.

Whoever talked about Yelp is absolutely correct. Look for 4+ stars in a place for sure.

Another place is NoMI at the Park Hyatt which is near the John Hancock as well.

Le Colonial - Near North Side - Chicago, IL
NoMI Kitchen - Near North Side - Chicago, IL
North Pond - Lincoln Park - Chicago, IL

I can't speak personally about North Pond, but have friends who've been there and liked it. I've heard it's a great, great romantic setting. Tranquil almost. Le Colonial is a place I love, and while it's in the city, it's very low lit upstairs and romantic as well. Most people there are on dates or married, or..whatever (a lot of celebs pop in too because it's very low key there). I've only been to NoMI once, but it's a nice place, but I went during the day so.. yeah.

Check out North Pond and Le Colonial at least for sure though. Just call and make sure they know you're going to propose too if you make the reservation.

You might want to take her to a concert at the Ravinia Festival up in Highland Park (north suburbs). Most of the people lay on blankets and watch the stars as they listen to the concert. Lots of folks bring dinners and wine. You aren't alone, but you will probably get a nice round of applause when you propose. Lots of nice, rich people in good moods at Ravinia.

However, I still think doing it over drinks at The 96th Lounge as you look north or south over the lakefront is the best idea. Get the waiter to help you make it special. Have him put the ring in her drink. Or set it down on the table as he brings your drinks. If he knows what you are doing, he will get you exactly the table you want.

Please refrain from recommending Ravinia to these simpletons. The Hancock building is a bad choice because I would not want to propose in a building where Chris Farley died. In addition, what if there is a thunderstorm that evening? Not the best mood. This young man should call Wrigley Field and see if he can do the proposal on the jumbotron.

I agree with the sentiment of proposing before dinner. That way you get a chance to be out in the open and celebrate, just the two of you.

Regarding restaurants, try calling the hotel you are staying at. If they have a concierge (if not, just use the front desk) but many times the local restaurants will provide them with packages to get them to recommend their restaurants. can also help you get in with reservations if you are having trouble.

You already spent money on the ring, at least you can get a free appetizer or drink!

Sorry, I didn't think that I needed to tell him to check the weather forecast.

+1 for Wrigley Field, but you know, it has been known to rain there also!

Since there is no way a girl that would marry cyber actually exists, take her to Wiener Circle. Make sure you let them know why you are there too. She will be treated like a queen, and it will certainly be a night she will never forget. And since she's imaginary, it won't matter.

Otherwise, most of the other suggestions are pretty spot on. NoMi would be great if you can get a window seat, but might be pushing your price range. mK is another of my favorites, but again might be pushing your price range. Le Colonial can be great if you are open to non-american food.

Believe me I'm just as shocked, especially this good looking of a girl :v_SPIN:
