Chicago People I Need Your Help.

Probably can't go wrong with any steakhouse downtown. I've been to Morton's and The Capital Grille, both of which were very good and about what you would expect price-wise. You may actually have a more private table at Capital Grille. Also, it's kind of nice to celebrate and relax during dinner with some champagne or wine, so proposing during a walk around Millennium Park beforehand wouldn't be a bad idea. You can enjoy dinner that way. Congrats!

I do like your idea except for the steakhouse part, I like steak but she hates it. Any good italian places around Millennium park?

While I'm giving semi-solicited advice, get a bottle of wine or champagne or a spirit that is memorable but not so expensive you won't want to get it again. Plays in your favor for anniversaries in the future.

Pre-dinner proposals I would say are the best bet, the Millennium Park idea is a good one. Makes dinner more enjoyable. The way I would look at it is the proposal is for the future (you'll have to tell the story more times than you would like), dinner is for her, and celebratory drinks are for you.

Agreed, and to calm my nerves haha.

I'm proposing to my girlfriend in Chicago in the second weekend of August and I'm in need of a good restaurant to go out to dinner. So I'm looking for something romantic where she can dress up. Afterwards I was thinking about going to celebrate at nice bar or something. I'm not looking for $100 dollar plates or anything, but something pretty nice and maybe low lit (cuz I'm ugly :jimlad:).

Thanks for the help in advance.

Bandera
535 N Michigan Avenue

Recommended by Hotel concierges at The Hyatt and the Fairmont. Second floor, above Michigan Avenue. Steak and seafood. Great food and not priced as high as the big name steakhouses.

I can't be of any help on suggestions, but just wanted to post a sincere Congrats to you Cyber!

Thanks man, I've been with her for almost 5 years now and she's still the one I can see myself spending the rest of my life with. She's not your run of the mill girl, and it's a plus that she isn't dumb (going to be a doctor).

It also doesn't hurt that she is smokin' hot haha.

RPM is the hot spot for Italian right now. I haven't been there, but have heard good things. It's walking distance from both Millenium Park and The Signature Room.

That RPM place must be exploding because I can't reserve anything even 3 months in advance.

Maybe try giving them a phone call and telling them you plan to propose. I bet they'd help you out.

Good idea, I have a reservation set up there for 10:00 PM but that is pretty late to eat dinner :v_SPIN:

That's pretty late, but not terrible either. Whenever I go out on weekends, 9:00 is typical. I'm sure you can find an earlier time at another place if it would fit your plans better. I can recommend a few more places when I get home later.

I'd also recommend the architectural boat tour (Wendella, I think, is the one I did) also for a day-time activity.

I just don't know how late they are open, so 10PM seemed late. We are going to hit up the Natural History Museum (she's never been to Chicago) and do some "shopping" that I'm sure she will drag me along for but other than that we are just going to play it by ear (except for reservations to a restaurant).
