Chicago People I Need Your Help.

I've been telling her that I want to take her to Chicago for about 3 years now, she might be expecting it, but I think it would be a very good place for a proposal.

Dinner at North Pond Cafe. Walk through Lincoln Park Zoo. Propose on bridge at south end of zoo. Great view of downtown.

The architectural tours by boat are really cool also. The new Trump Building is incredible. Again, if you want to propose during something like this, clue the person doing the tour so that they can give you ideas of when/where/how. Even if you propose elsewhere, tell the person and they will help make it special for you. People love being nice to people who just got engaged.

Have you ever thought about taking her to Cleveland instead? I hear people propose outside the "FREE" stamp all the time... much better than a bean :jimlad:

Sounds romantic, and after seeing their tourism videos I just might!

Read the rest of the post. Got a little trigger happy lol

Ha. Quick trigger finger indeed. Only the sentence in my reply had loaded by the time I gave you the windmill reply! I have in-laws in Cleveland/Akron (Ohio State fans), so I am always quick on that trigger.

Don't have time to read most of the posts to date. If you still are looking for ideas. please pm me. Our SIL works in Chicago area near finance's company. They're getting married the weekend after July 4 in Iowa. I can ask him for possibilities if you want. Both live and work in Chicago area.

Lived in Chicago for 24 years. Easy choice: The Signature Room.

This fantastic restaurant is at the top of the John Hancock Building. It has a great bar. Both the bar and the restaurant have views all four directions (lake, downtown, north lakefront, near north side). It has the best views in the city by far. Tell them in advance what you are doing and they will make sure you get a great table. I used to take people there for lunch because it is actually pretty reasonable priced for lunch. It will be expensive for dinner, but worth it. And it is famous for being a place for classy proposals.

Cyber, you owe me daily reps for a month for advice this good!

Honestly, for true romance, this really is the ticket. It will give that unforgettable experience. The only thing better would be a private dinner cruise. As said, tell them in advance what you are doing and you can't go wrong.

I wouldn't do it at dinner but maybe somewhere unexpected. In the cab. At a crosswalk. In front of the Bean sounds cool. The trip to Chicago. Before dinner in the hotel. You will be nervous she will know something is up. Id get it out of the way early to set the stage for a romantic evening where she will be all googly eyed. You will then enjoy it more too.

I second this. Though, I've already told you Cyber. If you even think that you will be nervous, the meal will not be as enjoyable for you. Don't waste good money on food you will barely taste or sorta eat before you ask her.

Don't know if I will be nervous or not but probably will be just because I think just about everyone is.

This is a good point. You may want to do the actual proposal early in the trip in a more relaxed environment. Then, spend your money doing things to celebrate when you won't be as nervous, but be really ready to enjoy the celebration.

Way too touristy, go to Sprout, in Lincoln park.. Great restaurant.... If you got time to plan call a few months ahead and go to girl and the goat in the west loop or try topolobampo on lasalle. Rose Angeles in Lincoln park is great Italian, signature room is tourist central, last place I would go

You sound like you are really up on the hot spots. If that is what Cyber wants, then you sound like a great resource. However, I think he is a "tourist" who may like the classic stuff. Your ideas sound more like the places that someone from Chicago should consider. And even if The Signature Room is frequented by tourists, how many other great restaurants are 95 floors up with a great view in all four directions?

Note that Loolapalooza is the first weekend. Also that "tall ships" are supposed to arrive at Navy Pier on August 11-14. That would be cool.

Thanks for the help in advance.[/quote]

Maybe the Cuyahoga River will catch on fire the day you come by... how romantic and bada** would that be to propose to a huge fire in the background? :jimlad: then spend all your money at the new casino!

Oh most of my friends are OSU fans (good chunk actually go there), I can always say (if we continue our trend) that ISU went to more Bowl Games than OSU in the span of time that I went there lol. I'm in the Akron area as well.

You seem like a good guy so I am sure she love the ring because it is from you. Girls that get hung up on ring size are not in it for the right reason.

Kind of like the 5'4" guys who have to drive the F-250 trucks or some other behemoth.... funny stuff

:twitcy:

much less touristy, but if you like Italian I would take a cab over to Picalo Sogno and request a table on the patio, which is amazing along with their food. Very secluded and feels more like Italy than Chicago. Signature Room or the Wit rooftop for drinks afterwards to cap off the night.
