Bowl Situation Thread

Pinkl to Times Square and Occupy TS. Say hi to Bloomberg for us.

That said it would be great for our recruiting if we go to Dallas.

That only happens if Missouri (to the Pinstripe) gets picked ahead of Iowa State (at-large) in the Big 12 bowl selection order.

As I have been reminded of frequently, that's just not possible.

Thanks for the clarification. That is very interesting. This Michigan situation will be interesting to follow. They are #16 this week (ineligible). But everyone expects them to move up past Wisky/MSU loser and Georgia if they lose. That would put them at #14 and in position to be selected ahead of OSU/OU loser or KSU (if they beat ISU).

But Michigan is idle, and #17 Baylor could leapfrog Michigan by beating a quality BCS team in #22 UT. That would leave Michigan at #15 and out. Baylor is already ahead of Michigan in the computer rankings, but two spots behind in the polls. If they close the gap to one spot behind with a good showing, and further strengthen the computer ranking, it might be interesting.

Would love a Baylor win this weekend.

For the sake of argument let's say it happens and we get two into the BCS - we'll say OSU and KSU (no upsets). Even if ISU beats K-State, as long as OU beats Okie State I think the Big 12 could still get two in.

Next up is the Cotton, and they would want a 9-3 OU team for sure. (Or 9-3 KSU in the alternate situation, or maybe 9-3 Baylor, but it doesn't really matter - they will all go ahead of us.)

Then the Alamo, and a 9-3 Baylor (or KSU) as well as 7-5 Texas who didn't go bowling last season are both options.

The Insight is next, and you have to imagine they would take whoever the Alamo didn't out of Texas and Baylor (and KSU).

So here we are at the Holiday Bowl. Regardless of what happens ahead of this bowl, only three options for them will be left out of the Big 12: 7-5 Misery, 6-6 aTm, and 6-6/7-5 Iowa State. One of those things is not like the others (Hint: Actually staying in the conference).

Have to think that the Meineke Bowl would be lobbying for A&M, anyway (they have the next pick). And when it comes down to Mizzou and ISU, didn't we already hop them when they were 8-4 and we were 6-6? And when they WEREN'T leaving the conference?

If Big 12 lands two in the BCS - which is very possible - ISU should be going to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl.

A couple of updates from the USA Today website. #1-They have ISU in the TicketCity bowl against Illinois. #2-UCLA has been granted a waiver from the NCAA,they will be in a bowl if they lose to Oregon and finish at 6-7.

A few updated bowl projections from today:
NBC- Independence bowl vs. Wake Forest
CBS- Military bowl vs. North Carolina
Washington Post- Ticket City bowl vs. Purdue
Scout- Same as WP.
National Football Post- Kraft Hunger bowl vs. Wyoming
Rivals- Same as CBS.
USA Today- Ticket City bowl vs. Illinois
Bleacher Report- Ticket City vs. Northwestern

So basically... no one knows. I still say we pass Mizzou and go to the Pinstripe (unfortunately). Can't wait for the games Saturday and the selection show Sunday!

So many of these sources have such a low football iq.

70 teams go to a bowl.

Today, 71 teams are eligible.

5 are on the bubble:

ACC- All in or out.

Big XII- All in or out.

B1G- All in or out.

Big East-
-Pitt 5-6, Cuse left.
-Cuse 5-6, Pitt left.
-South Florida 5-6, WV left.
-UConn 5-6, Cincy left.

Independents- All already in or out.

Pac 12- UCLA- I believe they petitioned the NCAA and will be in a bowl with 6-7 record (assuming they lose to Oregon).

C-USA-
All in or out.

MWC- All in or out.

MAC-
-All either in or out.

SEC-
All in or out.

Sun Belt- All already in or out.

WAC-
-Hawaii 6-6. Play 13 games. Must win last game vs BYU.

Only 4 more teams could possibly get eligible. That's 75 possible, with 70 spots.

Just kind of a running tally to help keep track.

(No USC, now no Miami)

You'll definitely get some cred if it shakes out this way, because I haven't seen this projection anywhere else. Most everything I've seen has ISU getting the at-large bid to any number of exotic locales, like Dallas, DC, SF, etc. That would mean Mizzou getting picked ahead of ISU, but as I've said, I'd be HAPPY if Mizzou got last in this race...the Pinstripe is not appealling.

Those magazines just look at the current standings then plop the teams into their corresponding bowl position. It looks as if there is no thought involved. I wouldn't put too much stock into it.. in either regard.

Yeah, most of them have no secondary agreements considered in their projections.

By the way, this is the same site that dissed ISU yesterday when talking about potential Rutgers opponents for the game if Rutgers goes...
Notice, that your friend is impressed with Texas A&M (Missouri too, sorry Iowa State not so much) just because of the name. Advantage: Pinstripe Bowl.
But also notice, your friend will definitely watch the Belk Bowl. The game is on ESPN at 8pm and the only bowl game at night on that day. Advantage: Belk Bowl.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would want to go to the Pinstripe Bowl.

Potential bad weather
New York sucks

Any bowl is a good bowl for ISU. Our young guys need the extra practice. In thinking of the pinstripe bowl, I think back to the Boise bowl. Granted, NYC is a hell of a lot better than Boise, but it could be cold, frozen field, with an essentially home crowd in Rutgers. I just believe ISU will do much better in an at large bowl than the Pinstripe. I will not be going to NYC for a bowl game, but may be able to go to Dallas as I have family there and am sure I have a place I could stay. Besides, driving to Dallas is much easier than flying to NYC. I would rather fly to Dallas than NYC even.

Exactly my thoughts too.

1. Any bowl better than none.
2. No bowl is worse than Boise. If you're going somewhere cold, at least NYC is a neat place and will generate a ton of exposure.
3. ISU can get a better bowl at-large than Pinstripe if they get a chance
4. I'll go to Dallas as its not too far for me, but no way NYC.

Odd that Mark got ISU's record wrong in 2009. Going into the Insight Bowl, they were 6-6, not 7-5.

I'm realy hoping for the PinStripe -- footbball in Yankee Stadium and New Years Eve in Time Square !!!!!

The nice thing about the Pinstrinp is its location(not for playing football). What better way to get your name out than the New York Media?
