***Big 10 Thread***

How do we know that tweet was from a Hawk fan?

We don't....just some anonymous dude on social media. Honestly I wouldn't let my kid on there under his own name....just invites trouble.

First, there wasn't only one person tweeting. If you read Patrick's tweet and the responses, there are a few different people who were tweeting to him.

Second, on Hawkeye Report, they've already identified one of them, and people have called his place of employment.

Third, also on the Hawkeye message boards, there are other posters who seem to share the negative sentiment toward Fran's kids, so we know those hawk fans are out there.

Fourth, Occam's razor. You have to go down a pretty deep logical well to get to a fan of a non-iowa fan tweeting at a coach's son about the performance of his dad. A disgruntled hawk fan, upset at Fran and the piss poor season he's produced is far, far more likely.

The list of candidates going back to when Fran was hired was less than impressive to say the least. And I’m not sure their program is in any better shape now than it was then.

LaVall Jordan - Butler's current HC. Has impressive wins over Villanova and Ohio State. He probably won't get a look though because he was an assistant coach at Iowa under Todd Lickliter.

The list of candidates probably starts with Ben Jacobson.

Another guy that should probably get a look is Dan Hurley - current HC at Rhode Island. He's probably going to be getting a lot of job offers this off-season. Similar to Fran because he's an east-coast guy, so that may work against him, but maybe that could help keep Garza in town if there were a coaching change. RI's recruiting class for 2018 is rated #30 (per 247).

Butler may be a better job than Iowa.
I think Jake will make the leap at some point, to me Minnesota would make a lot of sense.
Hurley will get a better job than Iowa. I can totally see him at a lower to mid ACC school pretty soon.

Please tell me this is true

It’s too bad for mad frans kids, but part of the price of being a head coach is dealing with idiots. Those kids have grown up with los of privileges and money. I’m sure Doug McDermott heard lots **** from our fans, but his parents were able to help him deal.

I’d also place some blame on mrs mad fran She’s a bit of a hothead too.

This is a business Patrick. Better get a backbone or going to be a long Hawkeye career. Fran is fine, things will get better

Literally why would we want to fire your dad, though? It’s a fluke season. Happens to the best of them. So what? Next game.

These are my favs so far.
1. Get a backbone
2. Tell your bro to quit
3. Fluke season for a guy with a career losing Big 10 record in 8 years.

The "fluke season" guy must be a Jon Miller follower. Jon stated last week that the Hawks had one disappointing season (current one) out of eight.

Yeah, I have heard him say that, too. According to him, every season for Fran has been a step forward, except this one. So, apparently, missing the tournament last year, after making it the year before is a step forward. Not sure how he arrived at that notion. Yes, they lost a bunch of guys from the previous year's team, and perhaps they were left encouraged with how the season turned out, but it was still a step back from where they'd been previously. No way to spin that.

In reality, Fran's tenure at Iowa looks like a moderate climb from the Lick era, and then a plateau during the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons. He peaked in January of 2016, at #3 in the polls, and then the team went into a tailspin, and has pretty much been on a downward trajectory ever since. Last year was a slight decline, and he's gone over a cliff, this season.

Yes yes, the cannibalization has begun.
oh, absolutely. HN and HR are full of threads of hawk fans attacking each other. Things are starting to circle the drain, and it's going to take a pretty giant effort for Fran to right the ship. It can be done, and it certainly could happen, but I don't think it's the most likely outcome right now.

I think the only way he saves his job is with a NCAA tourney bid, next year.

Fran's seat is on fire right now, but not sure Barta has the stones to fire him. Wish they would get rid of Barta and then the new AD could hire a coach. I don't trust Barta doing all of this.

Can we get a Lavar Ball situation at Iowa? Fran just hangs around complaining about how the new coach isn't handling his kids right.

This would be fun although not sure if Fran or his wife is more Lavar-esque.

I find it odd that Patrick feels free to say a high school kid didn’t deserve his award on Twitter, but then thinks as a high school kid on Twitter, no one should mention his dad to him. It it not right to go after the son regardless of his age about the poor job his dad is doing, but since he seems to use the impersonal aspect to put down high school kids, I am not sure why he thinks he is going to be treated any better.

I was sad to see #fireFran on Twitter, although at least one of the people using it was some delusional K-Boo fan wanting ESPN to fire Fran Fraschilla.

I would be surprised if Fran's seat was lukewarm, let alone on fire.
Agreed. Apathy has set in.

Fran is basically a more *******/less arrogant Steve Alford. Pretty much the same exact results.

Alford was run out of town, and people just don't seem to care now with Fran.

You don't think it's even lukewarm? I mean, he's staring down the barrel of 3-4 conference wins. Didn't make the tournament last year. I guarantee you discussions have been had and short lists of replacements have been updated among the powers that be.
