Best Rock Singer

Best all-time is Freddie.

Matt Bellamy and Myles Kennedy are my two faves who are currently putting out music. The note Myles hits in the video below at 5:50 is incredible for a live performance.

There's something about Myles Kennedy's voice that grates on me.

Who do you pick as your top Rock vocalist? Mick Jagger? Tina Turner? Both of those are Octogenarians! Any new voices? One of my top picks the deceased Scott Weiland of STP is "newer" but not recent. Another is the old Tool singer Maynard James Keenan, now of Puscifer. I have to add the best commercial voice is one that at first listen seems average but has moved a mountain of music-Phill Collins and he's on my list.

Who you got?
Not Phil Collins.

Some great ones already listed multiple times on here. My list?

Classic List:
Paul Rodgers
Freddie Mercury
Robert Plant
Sammy Hagar
Ronnie James Dio
Ozzy
Rob Halford
Bruce Dickinson
Layne Staley

New List (say post 1990s)
Brent Smith
Beth Hart
Myles Kennedy
Taylor Momsen
Jay Buchanan

Her music wasn’t always rock or even mostly rock but Tina Turner is a legit great answer.

Obviously not even slightly underrated as a total artist but I think John Lennon is the best male rock vocalist in terms of pure emotion. Tons of the early stuff and covers he’s pouring emotion to the point of exhaustion and solo album plastic Ono band is most emotional vocals I’ve heard recorded.

Otis Redding is like Tina where if he had more rock stuff rather than R&B he’d be tops. A few of his songs are rockers and he had massive power.

An underrated singer would be Nina Gordon from Veruca Salt.

No matter how edgy the lyrics, it still came out of her with kind of a sweet and innocent sound.
