BCS Worst Nightmare

Utah is the national champions in my eyes. They beat Michigan at the big house, & yes I know they had an off year. They beat Oregon State the week after they beat USC. They beat #12 TCU in conference 13-10. Then #14 BYU handly 48-24. Last but not least #4 Alabama 31-17. This itself should prove that Florida, Oklahoma, & Texas hands down DO NOT DESERVRE THAT CHAMPIONSHIP AND THAT THE BCS STANDS FOR BIG CASH SELLERS. If Oklahoma or Florida win they should call the BCS commitee and tell them they want Utah to have it. And this really goes on Urban Meyers shoulders cause if it wasn't for Utah and their success he would not be in Florida right now and that is fact. And for Bob Stoops he should know how it feels to be Utah. He has had it done to him before. SO GIVE THEM WHAT THEY HAVE EARNED! THE SEARS TROPHY FOR BEING THE ONLY TEAM TO GO UNDEFEATED IN FOOTBALL THIS YEAR!!!!!

Great post... Go UTES!! I grew up in SLC :-)

By your logic the BCS is 32 years old. It isn't. Hyperbole and logic don't mix.

Anyone else miss the "Most wonderful week of the year" between Christmas and New Years where all it was was bowl games all day long on those days. Now they spread them out to put them all in primetime and we have games still on 1/6.

I miss having like 8 games on New Years Day all day. Now they spread it out and I don't get the same overload.

I think this year was more the result of News Years falling on a thursday and capitalizing on 4 day weekend audience.

Put new years on a Tuesday, and I bet more games would be on this year. I didnt mind it cause my DVR can only do 2 at a time.

I'll post it again because I think it is the best idea I have heard in a long. It makes too much sense I guess.

Wetzel's playoff plan: I'll drink to that - College Football - Rivals.com

I'm only against that because it's too many teams. We only need to get at most 6 teams playing to determine national champion. We're not playing it to determine 2nd, 3rd and 4th. With 6 teams it's about 99% that you'll end up with the best team winning and not getting left out.

There are a lot of plans out there that keep the bowls around for everyone to go play in and still give a play-off at the top.

I think it's important as an ISU fan to keep the bowl games around, as we need something to play for until we can build up to a Nat'l Champ Contend!

Did the BCS lose money this year? If the answer is no, then this is not the BCS's worse nightmare.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but why not just use the FCS formula. It seems to work. I don't understand how every other division has a playoff and it doesn't disrupt their academics too much like the Presidents of of the BCS argue would happen.

I heard someone say they wouldn't travel to see the games if it was 4 games. UNI hasn't had that problem. March Madness doesn't have that problem. Besides, unless its a program like Florida, USC, Oklahoma, etc, most teams won't be in the thing every year even if it was 16 teams.

I think the playoff will just increase parity throughout college football, which is probably what the BCS dictators are afraid of. If it starts to look like teams such as Boise and Utah from the non BCS conferences are just as good, which I think Utah already proved, you start to loose power and money. Everyone knows that is what this is really about. Overall everyone would gain more money, making the playing field even more level. In reality it is discrimination. You have a system that on the outside looks fair, but in reality, not everyone is treated equally from the onset. If you look at Utahs schedule, there is no way they shouldn't be the champs. Their schedule was definately tougher than any ACC team, or Big Ten team. The only thing preventing the small conferences from bailing is that its really the only rules they can play by.

I think FOX lost money on the BCS again. If I heard correctly, they have not made ANY money on the BCS which is why they were not throwing a bigger fit when ESPN got the BCS. I will not be able to watch since I do not have cable/satellite.

I don't get why everyone likes to rip on the BCS. Its better than what they had before. At least there is an effort to have the best two teams play eachother. Before, you could have an 11-0 team play a 8-3 team while another 11-0 team plays a 9-2 team.

If you polish a turd, it's still a turd...

I whole heartedly disagree that that was a great post. Just because you go undefeated and by the transitive property beat other teams does NOT make you the champion.

So is Ball State tied as the second best team in the country because they only have 1 loss? Good God no. You can't pick and choose when you use that argument and that argument is absolutely horrible.

Looking at this schedule, Utah didn't have a quality win until 10 games into the season. Michigan? Let's think of how Michigan started the year: Absolutely terrible. Oregon State was a home game and just coming off the biggest win of their season. TCU was their first quality win, and they barely squeaked that out at home. BYU was another quality win, yet another win at home. Alabama was an excellent win, but on a neutral field. They gained a lot just by the schedule they played (see Kansas last year) and never had to play a good team on the road (neutral fields, yes, true road games, no).

Now here is the schedule of Florida, a one loss (to this point) team. Week 4, lost to a ranked team by a point. LSU rolled into Florida with a #4 ranking, and left with a black eye. Florida went between the hedges and smoked Georgia and their #6 ranking. Smoked a Vanderbilt team that went on to a bowl game. Smoked a South Carolina team that went on to a bowl game (:skeptical:) Annihilated a Citadel team that's, well, the Citadel. Annihilated a Florida State team that went on to a bowl on the road. To cap it off, beat an Alabama team on a neutral field just like Utah did. I'm guessing I could probably make the same argument with Oklahoma or Texas, 2 win loss teams that would give a Utah a run for their money, and I would be willing to say beat the Utes. Is Utah an excellent team? Damn right they are! Are they the clear cut national champion? Nope.

To counter-argue, no one knew at the time that the Michigan win wasn't going to be a quality win. That decision is made in retrospect. Also, Oregon St was a solid win at game #6.

Now, I'm not going out to say that Utah deserves the national championship. But if I had a vote in one of the other media polls, I'd probably vote Utah just to spite the BCS.

Ok, that I messed up. However, the fact still remains they didn't prove they could go on the road and beat any decent teams. Their schedule helped them immensely. At least a couple years down the road we'll be able to end their undefeated season right off the bat
