2023-24 ISU WBB Season Thread

In the videos of the alumni at the 50th Anniversary celebration, is that Kid Blaskowski in the white cowboy hat? She was a pistol and seems to still be. One of my favorites.

Then there is a blond lady hugging CBF. Is that Brittany Wilkins? I remember attending the Iowa- Iowa State womens game at Carver after she had graduated. There were more Cyclone fans than Hawkeye fans. She sat two rows in front of me and I thought "Wow! She could be a professional model!". Seems like she still could be.

Then there is Angie Welle. She looks like she could still start and dominate on our team! But cannot get used to her with the dark hair.

I was really concerned when you mentioned that Brittany Wilkins was blind. AutoCorrect is a weird thing.

So I think we are still on bubble watch, but I don’t see why Charlie Creme has Green Bay as ‘Last 4 Byes’ with a NET of 55? Then when you look at it, the Horizon conference predicted champ is a 13 seed, but Green Bay (at large) is a 10 seed.

We are slated as ‘Last 4 In’ but I have to believe we would be in before Green Bay.

I think we need to win the rest of our games sans Kansas State in order to be in the tournament.

I really like watching these ladies, but I think that is a tall order. Brown seems exhausted and hasn’t been the 2 to Audi’s one in a while.

The problem is that no one else of note does a WBB bracketology (as far as I know), so we're stuck with Creme -- and he's simply not good.

Where can I find the video?

Looking at things prior to the KSU game I would guess many thought this would be an 0-2 week. So, the ladies picked up a huge win and showed fight against Texas.
The rest of the schedule has to be viewed as one game at a time. The ladies haven’t been good on the road and Houston is next. Can’t take anything for granted as the UCF game indicated. The road game versus KSU will be a tall order to fill. Cincy at home should be a win. BYU at home will be a battle And could go either way.
Go 3-1 (17-11) likely in the dance
Go 2-2 (16-12) def on the bubble and likely on the outside looking in. Few 16 win teams get in the dance.
Go 1-3 (15-14) NIT here we come.

One game at a time is what we need to focus on. Hopefully Diew is feeling better. JB looked like a newborn colt against Texas, hope she keeps trending up (assuming this is still from injury/illness). KSU will be interesting again if Lee plays or not. If she does, I like our chances again. If not, it will be harder with a more guard lineup and Crooks being more neutralized.

As far as Creme, I swear he hates ISU.

Under the weather so just hanging out killing time. Found that BIg 12 org stats are among the random things you can't access from out of country. Weird. So looked at ESPN Big 12 stats.

For those harping about how Audi Crooks is "cheated" by bad refs every game, she is actually #3 in the Big 12 in free-throw attempts at 5.7 per game in 25 minutes of PT/game. Leader is Jillian Hayes of CIN at 6.4 attempts/game. No one is going to line 10 times a game. Depending on how many games we get in the Big 12 tournament and post-season games, Crooks has a shot at getting into the Top 10 for free-throw attempts in a Cyclone season.

Nationally Crooks is #39. If you don't count Angel Reese (she's listed as F) there is only one center/post that gets more free-throws nationally than Crooks.

For comparison to Big 12 elite center, Ayoka Lee, in her junior full season year, averaged 5.3 attempts in 33 minutes per game. This season Cailyn Clark is leading the Big Ten while averaging a whopping one more free-throw a game than Crooks (6.7) in 10 more minutes per game of PT.

On the bad side of stats: Addy Brown is #2 in TO at 3.3 a game. Emily Ryan isn't listed on ESPN because of number of games played but she would bump Brown for 2nd because she is averaging 3.4 TO.

Which doesn't mean she isn't getting fouled a lot more than what's being called.

Crooks avg a FT every 4.4 game clock minutes
Clark avg a FT every 6.7 game clock minutes
Hayes avg a FT every 4.0 game clock minutes
Lee avg a FT every 5.9 game clock minutes
Reese avg a FT every 3.3 game clock minutes

So Reese gets to the line the most for the time spent on the floor, Clark the least (of players mentioned). Audi is right in the middle.

Reese is the exception to my "nobody" gets to the line as much as ISU fans think Crooks should. I'd swear half the fouls for Reese are on her 2nd attempt after she rebounds her own missed shot. Also seems half her rebounds are her own missed shot, or at least last year. Have to say I haven't watched them much this year.

Not sure what the deal is with Hayes, not like I've had any reason to watch a Cincinnati game this year. Well, I will watch on March 2nd of course.

Go to big12sports.com for stats. They have team and individual stats and you can filter to show only stats in the conference games.

I meant big12sports.com, not org. Stats won't open. I am not in USA right now. Interesting, all the other tabs work, just not WBB and MBB stats. Was surprised the ESPN ones were as complete as they were.

Still down South? Hope you get better soon.

Crooks is averaging 33 minutes a game over the last six games. She played 21.3 minutes a game over the 14 NC games. That's quite a jump. She seems to have avoided any sort of 'freshman wall" both physically and mentally.
