12/15/2008-Official Head Coaching Search Thread

Not being here long because you move up it one thing. Already being retired when you get here is another. Nobody over 55 please.

Honestly I don't see why age makes a difference, if he can win some games I don't care about the age.

As long as he can recruit, lead, hire good assistants and ultimately win...our new coach could be 95 years old and wear Depends for all I care.

Because he isnt going to be winning games next year. And if he gets something going in a couple I'd like to think that he could be here several years, not wondering if each year is retirement time.

Been researching Shottenheimer some more, looks like he may be a candidate for some NFL head coaching jobs... Lets move fast!

I really like it.

Another idea. The guy who was hire at Bama, got fired be for starting. Can't recall his name. I think he would stay clean if given a second chance.

Mike Price is who you are thinking of -- he is the head coach at UTEP (University of Texas El Paso).

Mike Price...

I think I am going to start a one man crusade for Shottenheimer, if anything because people (including me) will butcher the spelling all the time .

Another one I would like, if he is let go, would be Jack Del Rio. Not sure what experience he has in college though.

How about Solich?

How about not?

Jacksonville Jaguars are 5-9 and you would assume that the staff gets let go. Dirk Koetter is their OC, former coach at Boise State & Arizona State, former coordinator at Mizzou back in the day. Would love him!!

Also, what's the sentiment with Paul Chryst from Wisconsin. Has a very good resume and I assume JP has some sort of relationship with him.

Solich was 9-5 2 years ago but has gotten worse and worse the last 2. I think he went 6-6 after that and started 2-8 this year. I thought about him, but changed my mind after I saw his recent record.

Koetter wouldn't be bad. Only 2 losing seasons out of 9 as head coach.

Oh please do tell what he has to say.

He isn't talking about it right now, but if I catch anything, I'll probably post it in the general thread about the issue since this is the new coach thread.

I like the Turner Gill idea. I'd love to see him march past the statue of Jack Trice on his way to the field on gameday. It would be very fitting.

We have some good names listed here. Anyone else think we have a better list now than we did two years ago? I'm not saying we can close the deal with some of them, but it sure seems like we're aiming a little higher if you consider only the serious names on each list. It's up to JP to get it done now.

I see your point. but Solichs' winning percentage and coaching experience is way better than Auburn's new hire.

No matter who the coach is going to be he has to keep the young talent here or it is going to be another 2-3 years of embarassing football.

I heard that Pollard is doing the honorable thing and will grant those guys wanting to transfer full releases. He's a bigger man than I. I would condition the release on no Auburn or other Big 12 schools. However, he also implored the team to not make any decisions until a new coach was hired.
Why punish the kids? they didn't do anything
