12/15/2008-Official Head Coaching Search Thread

I saw on the channel 5 news last night that Pollard addressed the team yesterday. Anyone hear anything about what was said or how the meeting went? Hopefully he was able to convince them to hold off making any decisions regarding their football career until a new coach was in place.

i was told from some players that he pretty much told them they didn't deserve this kind of treatment and encouraged them to stay and wait till they find a new coach before they make any decisions.

Besides Loney or Elliot, who would be a realistic head coach with midwest ties that would REALLY want to come/stay at ISU?

This has to be an agonizing decision for JP... Either hire an up-and-comer that might excite the players/fanbase, but could lose him after a few years to a better gig. Or, hire a guy with a real passion for ISU that may not be quite as sexy, and risk upsetting the fans and players...

Obviously I think the interview process needs to play-out and I am unsure on which of the preliminary candidates thrown out there by the media I like best but I do like Glenn Mason.

Talk to Scott Stephenson about Glenn Mason, or Scott's dad. Glenn Mason is a ***** in their minds and they should know. He would be horrible here at ISU. We can do better.

Elliot is not head coach material. Besides the fact he just got let go with the staff at SDSU his health problems will make it difficult for him to make the commitment to be a head coach.

Loney, if you look at wat fbcurt had to say, is close to the NFL coaches pension, which is a pretty big deal.

I would like to see Gary Patterson of TCU be the next coach, the guy is from the midwest and went to KState and can recruit the state of Texas...

It may be unrealistic because he just turned down Auburn along with Mike Leach and a bunch of other coaches...

If Jamie cant convince Patterson to come to Ames I really dont have a preference who Pollard hires!!!

I haven't seen a complete list of the available coaches yet. I do know that the latest report is that Brady Hoke (Ball St.) is now the San Diego St. coach.

My vote is for Turner Gill. He brought Buffalo out of the REALLY deep doldrums of college football. Didn't they hold the record for consecutive losses for a while? Anyway, he seems like an upstanding, ethical and charasmatic guy who can obviously build a winning team.

Glen Mason would be the bottom of my list just based on personality. I know someone who knows the guy well and he is a jerk.

Pollard luring Gill to Ames would be a minor miracle. I do not think it will happen.

I have a feeling he's going to end up getting someone lesser known. ISU has got to be a tough sell at this point to any higher profile coach.

(Gill) seems like an upstanding, ethical and charasmatic guy.

Funny, that was my impression of GC when he first arrived Ames 2 short years ago...

While I would LOVE to see Gill come to ISU, I really don't think it will happen. (Esp. considering he knows about Cyclone football from first-hand experience and how tough it is to compete in the Big XII with ISU's resources and the state's lack of recruitable kids)

I think when Gill gets to Ames and sees our facilities and meets some of the staff and players (and finds out he can triple his salary), I think we should have a good shot to get him. NU had their chance to hire him and passed, so imo if Jamie goes after him hard, we have a good chance to get him. We have a lot to sell at ISU with the good facilities and great fan support. The big 12 North is not tough and 2 out of 4 years we do not have to play a powerhouse. A good coaching staff can win here, I have no doubt about that.
