12/15/2008-Official Head Coaching Search Thread

The ISU coaching dream team:

Gill as Head Coach
Rhoads as DC
A monkey could be our OC for how good Rhoads is...

If Gill is aiming for Nebraska or another prominent job and is coming here to prove himself at a BCS school, then one of the best defensive coordinators in the nation with ISU roots could take the controls and be here forever.

That combination beats the gators:notworthy:

If Gill is destined for Nebraska, then he's going to end up at Nebraska. What difference does it make if he has to go through Iowa State? Bo Pelini is at Nebraska for the long haul, they're not getting rid of him any time soon (He may be there for life).
Thats what they were saying in Auburn 3-4 years ago. Solich won 10 games his last year at Nebraska, all it got him was a swift kick in the butt. Pelini is not safe at Nebraska. So Gill would not be 100% committed at ISU. Loney, Elliott, Rhodes have to be the top candidates IMO. I would like to add Mark Farley to that list. Before you bring up Terry Allen, Farley teams are different than Allen teams. Farley recruits across the nation. Allen teams were mainly ISU and Iowa rejects.

I saw a little blip on one of the local channels that said "Pollard/Chizik trade barbs". Anyone know what Benedict Arnold had to say about Pollard?

Just caught a clip of Chizik saying "It was difficult" but he "had a blueprint in place".

Keith Murphy owned him and his new look, too. :biglaugh:

Also, he stated that Iowa State is "compared to when I got there two years ago, it's a better place"

R U saying Gene might sell his grandmother? What does he have to gripe about JP. There might be some story here.

I meant that it is a tad interesting that Bobby Douglas and Wayne Morgan were both out as head coaches within a year of Pollard taking over as AD. Also, Douglas was no longer an assistant AD within 18 months. Go ahead and start firing away at me

Douglas knew it was his time to go for the good of the program. He continued to work with the program but knew he had to give up the HC job to cael to keep him around. We made that mistake with the Second best wrestler and history, not going to do it again with the best wrestler in history.

Pollard has reportedly contacted Okie State associate head coach Joe DeForest, according to CycloneSportsReport.com. :skeptical:

Why not? Your best coach ever was a Hawkeye.

Yeah, and if a guy that won 2-3 games a year stuck around long enough (20 years or so), he TOO could also hold the all time winning mark at this school.

After 12 years and 53 wins, saying someone is the "winningest coach" isn't exactly saying much...

And this is why I'm glad you're not heading up the coaching search. Farley? Really? The guy has proven over the last 5 years he's incapable of winning the big game - his teams crumble in pressure situations. Didn't we already live this once at the end of McCarney's tenure? I'm not looking forward to living it again.

And yeah, I know what your next argument is going to be - "Buh, buh, buh, Jim Tressel..." Hey, guess what - Tressel won several championships at Youngstown St before Ohio St came a calling. What has Farley done? Choked each and every year, especially the last two years, AT HOME, mind you, in the FCS playoffs. No thanks...

We DO NOT need to hire a Loney, or an Elliot with the logic that they will be here forever.

That would be like marrying an UGLY wife because you knew no one else would want her and that she would have almost no alternative but to have you as a mate. DUMB. Go for the one that is the best fit. IMO that would be Turner Gill. Don't settle for someone because they will stay here forever. If that is the case we should have kept Danny Mac. But in all honesty, ISU football needed a new face. Mac was going to be fortunate to ever get us back to .500 ball again. And that is the truth. His time had come and gone. The opportunity was wasted.
