General (non-ISU) Wrestling Twitter/News Thread

I don’t think the final result changes much even if Iowa didn’t have the gambling issues and landed Ferrari. I’d still take Truax over Assad, Brooks over Ferrari, and Kerk over Cass. If anything, Iowa got lucky Penn state lost SVN for the year and were forced to wrestle their backup freshman at 149
Agree. PSU winning eight matches. One of the two losses was SV.

I think the Hawkeyes match with Nebraska will be a good one.

Haines really worked Franek, that was indeed impressive. Woods was never close to scoring on Bartlett. I thought Rathjen looked pretty good though. Ayala needs to get off his freaking knees, he was always known for his attack rate/offense coming up but he’s a stall machine now.
Ayala started dropping to 1 knee around junior or senior year of HS i think. His brother Dru does it too, and seems to be spreading in the HS lighter weights. get the point in that it gets you super low but boring to watch especially when both guys in a match are doing it.

Also wonder if Drake can hold 125 another 2 years, though may only need to hold it 1 more if Schriever opts out of using his free Covid year. Just looks rail thin out there and gaunt in the face.

I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm with the young talent that PSU brings in. Mesenbrink is a force and will be a force for years to come, just reload with talent.

Had been looking like next year they might be vulnerable after loosing 2 4xers, but I still don't see anyone touching them. Bartlett, van ness, Haines, messenbrink is just nasty. Will kerk be done? Plus their upper weights always end up good.

Or they just find a new 25 and Ayala knocks out schriever. Schreiver had never really done what Iowa thought he would. He got destroyed last night. Looked slow on his feet.

Yeah it’s not looking likely. That core coming back plus Davis/Kasak going right now as true freshman. Barr in redshirt is going to be really good. 2024 class coming in stacked (Lilledahl, Gibson, Ryder, Sealy, Mirasola twins) and great 2025 class as well. Plus they’ll get their pick of transfers. The reign does not have an end in sight yet

When Jesuroga was coming, I thought Drake would move up and Jesuroga would be really good at 25. Deluca is in the class of 2025, so Drake would need to hold for another year.

People have been saying this since Ruth and Taylor. Then it was Nolf, Nickal, Retherford. Now it’s Brooks/Starocci. But of course they have Haines, Bartlett, Van Ness, Mess, etc.

Need to just accept that PSU will be putting out lineups with multiple champs every year. There will be no down year.

The biggest thing is they keep the studs around. Bring in a top P4P freshman, have them wrestle with Nolf, Retherford, Taylor, Brooks and those top freshman are going to develop into absolute studs in very short order.
